Tides Wharf in the '60s

Tippi Hedren will once again grace us with her presence at The Tides Wharf in Bodega Bay, CA this Memorial Day Weekend. The Tides Wharf was one of the locations for the filming of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" in the early 1960's.

Visitors come from all over the world to see landmarks from the movie including the Church and Schoolhouse in the town of Bodega and The Tides Wharf and Bodega Harbor in the town of Bodega Bay.

The Tides Wharf Restaurant and parking lot were used for the gas station, cafe and boat docking scenes.

When the (then) owner of The Tides (Mitch Zankich) agreed to allow Hitchcock the use his restaurant in “The Birds” he made three stipulations;

1) the town in the movie would be called Bodega Bay
2) the male lead (played by Rod Taylor) would be named Mitch
3) Zankich would have a speaking part in the movie (it was "What happened, Mitch?")

So if you are a die-hard fan of "The Birds", this is your chance to get a personalized autograph from Tippi Hedren and visit some familiar sights.

This sounds like so much fun!  My daughter and I are great fans of OLD movies like the birds, breakfast at tiffany's, etc.  And to see Tippi.... AWESOME!

The Birds is a cool movie, and the restaraunt sounds pretty interesting as well. What a fun event.

Linda - I love old movies too ... back when it was all acting and no special effects.

CA - Tippi has been doing this for years, I think it's really cool of her.

Scott - the restaurant has changed dramatically. I first stopped there for a drink 25 years ago when the bar still looked pretty much the same as it does in the b/w photo above.

I can remember when I saw that movie and I didn't look at a flock of birds the same after that.  How great she still makes the event.

Cute post Cynthia... I had nightmares from watching that movie.  I never looked at birds the same after that... especially big black crows!

Cindy - me too, I was quite young when I saw "The Birds" and it terrified me.

Melinda - yep, too many birds together creep me out. We have some friendly crows that we toss peanuts to but even they creep me out.

David - I had to look at Wiki, Tippi is 81 years old now. I had completely forgotten her daughter is Melanie Griffith! Maybe if your friends are as excited about it as you are you might get your way :)

Cynthia - Wow, I had no idea about the church and schoolhouse. We were there a few years ago on New Years when there was a lot closed. We were so focused on finding something to eat that we did not take the time to visit to this landmark.

Say Hi to Tippi. 81 wow.

Roger - Maybe I shouldn't have disclosed her age? I'm sure she wouldn't be happy with me :)

Virginia - it's a classic, that's for sure!

Robert - LOL

Ken - The schoolhouse is a personal residence at the moment. The church has recently been rehabbed, it looks great!

Peggy - Movie buffs would certainly love this.
