Every Holiday weekend we living in the United States find the roads are very crowded and accidents with fatalities occur at an alarming rate. The National Safety Council issues fatality estimates for these holiday periods to draw attention to the fact that it is very dangerous to be on the road.
Here are a few tips for safe driving this weekend:
-Establish and enforce a driver's distraction free zone where the driver has no access to cell phones, GPS devices, radio controls, video equipment. Enforce no texting, cell calls, fixing makeup, drinking or eating while driving by the driver.
-Allow more than enough travel time to get to your destination and don't speed ( In Texas keep up with the flow traffic or else you become a hazard).
-Don't drink and drive as even small amounts of beer or wine can impair reflexes. If you do drink have a alternate driver ready to take over for you.
-Use the seat belts for all the passengers and make sure even the children are wearing the seat belts.
-Try driving in defensive and safe mode especially if bad weather shows up.Go with the flow of traffic.
-Check out your car before leaving looking for potential problems such tires, fluids, brakes, warning lights, etc. Don't go on long trips if the vehicle has issues.
