I pride myself on having all the tools when I am out and about scouting for land, doing rentals, or checking up on my listings etc. One day, I picked up a pair of binoculars that were on sale not because I needed them, but because I thought it was a neat thing to have. But then, I started using them to read addresses

PERFECT REAL ESTATE TOOL

It worked like a charm too. I didn't have to turn around if I missed something or cross over a busy street. I would just pull over and get out the binocs. I even liked doing it.....

Well, imagine what it looks like to the casual observer....

1. Peeping Tom

2. Bird watcher

3. Undercover agent

4. Man spying on his wife

5. Lawsuit discovery

6. Terrorist Activity

ADD FLASHLIGHT TO BINOCS...

Sometimes I find myself either out in the evening or in places that have no lighting and I would use a flashlight and the binocs to find a street to turn on, landmark or an address. The stares I got from people were not those of approval or understanding. It is one thing to do it during the day, but towards the evening..?  NO

THE COVER STORY...JUST SAY YOUR A REAL ESTATE AGENT

The story a wrong doer would tell that no one would believe is that they are just an ordinary Real Estate agent. That is where I would be arrested, detained, and checked for wants and warrants...Can you imagine the questioning. What office are you from? What are you doing in this area. Where are your listings. Show me your license and can anyone vouch for you. No one uses bincoulars in Real Estate. Please get out of the car.. NOW

LAYING LOW FOR NOW

Look, I still have the binocs but I am not quick to pull them out like I used to....

I've never had to use binoculars to view property addresses.  Maybe our home are not setback as far from the road as yours!?

Alan....lots of rural, unmarked areas and those that are marked aren't marked clearly. Depends on the area. We got lots of neighborhoods with no curb or gutter, so that leaves either the address on the house or not at all sometime. Checking every mail box is a pain too. One time, I got off at the wrong off ramp, but was able to see the address of the building on the other side of the freeway using binoc technology...

Richie - I think I would retire the binoculars and go for stronger glasses ..... I would think that surviving a night in the hoosegow is not for you.

Kathy...this comes as a shock to people, but I already wear tri-focals. You cant tell by looking at them. Consequently, it even makes me look younger too. The fact is, unless I am looking straight at you, I don't get the full observation. I have had people ask me what am I staring at or why are you looking at me that way? Once I explain the tri-focals...were best friends after that. Kathy, worst case, seeing eye dog  and me share a place...No jail for me anyway, my sons an attorney and my brother is a councilman....

Great post Richie. I wish some home inspectors would keep a set in their vehicles.

John...you raise an most excellent point. If I saw an inspector with a pair of binoculars, in my eyes his personal stock would go up...it makes sense John...thanks for coming by..Home Savings Rules via John Saari
