As I've blogged about before, the new farmer's market at Rancho Shopping Center is coming on June 18th.  Following a rather silly delay due to Los Altos licensing rules, they are on track to become another valuable addition to the wide range of things to do in Los Altos, especially on the weekend.  The town is famous for some rather fun weekend events but this will be a regular event and more fun than something like the Art & Wine Festival.  As destinations go, this will be the kind of market where you get something a little different and spend some time.  Based on all descriptions, it's not the same as the farmer's market in downtown Los Altos, which makes it more fun.

There have been complaints that this new farmer's market will bring in too much traffic into that neighborhood.  OK, having lived on Parma Way a significant part of my life I can honestly say they could USE a little more traffic.  Sure, it's a bit challenging at the corner of Springer and Berry but let's be honest folks, the traffic on Riverside drive going into the back of Rancho is pretty light.  Moreover, it's a very walkable destination for most of the close neighbors.  I'll bet that parking is moderate and if anything people can park for a while on Berry (behind Rancho) and on Riverside as well as in front of what use to be Rancho Hardware without creating problems.  Stop whining and just enjoy it!

As for adding something new to Los Altos, I'm all for this.  I've said it in the past and say it again.  This is another bright spot to make Los Altos stand out as a destination to people in other communities.  Perhaps folks will stop by this new farmer's market and then head to Los Altos to do a little more shopping.  I'll be back to write a more in-depth review of the vendors once they open!

Bryan, this sounds like a great thing for the community.  You know some people will whine about anything!

Ann - It's definitely a good addition.  The whining always seems a bit out of control.  There are times when people just feel a need to voice an opinion, no matter what.
