Australian Group Study Exchange Team Visiting Rotary Clubs in Spring Hill, Florida
Members of the three Rotary Clubs in Hernando County, Rotary Club of Brooksville, Rotary Club of Spring Hill, and Rotary Club of Spring Hill Central were treated to a little glimpse into the customs, life, and nature of the land "down under" today.
At a luncheon taking place at the clubhouse of the Silverthorn Country Club Community, the Group Study Exchange (GSE) team from Australia visited with members of all three local Rotary Clubs and gave an informative presentation of their professions and life in Australia. Team leader of the group is Robyn Lardner from the Rotary District 9780 in South Australia. It was interesting to hear in her presentation what type of projects Rotary Clubs in other countries are involved with.
The Rotary Group Study Exhange program is a opportunity for professionals who are not Rotary members but are sponsored by local Rotary Clubs to travel to other countries, stay with Rotarian guest families while touring those countries. During the exchange, group study members have an opportunity to meet with their counterparts from their profession or specialty to learn how things are done there.
The Rotary Club of Spring Hill, Florida, part of District 6950, did sponsor a member of our Spring Hill community to travel to Australia earlier this year also as part of the Group Study Exchange program.
As a special treat, the Australian team demonstrated an uniquely Australian game called "two-up" involving two coins and a special wooden gadget, the spinner.
The event concluded with the traditional exchange of banners from the visiting sponsor and the local clubs.
