Why are some agents relucant to use the Internet?

I often ask myself this question, Why are some agents reluctant to use the Internet? I give seminars to agents and I actual own an online consulting company (defede::media::) and my clients are large and small clients mostly in the Pharmaceutical Industry. If anything that Industry is the most tightest buttoned up regulated industry that I know, but yet the know the power of the web how to market a product or service.

So why is that some agents and brokers that I know ( I won't mention any names) say that the Internet is BS and using it is nothing but BS? I understand the debate about craigslist because it's kind of like the wild west and you will never ever get someone on the phone at craigslist.

But the web is probably one of the greatest tool any agent or agency can have to promote properties and attract buyers etc. There are 3 types of people/agents and brokers that i run into all the time.

The first is the Broker who's been in the business for 30 years and refuses to embrace new technology because of an ego, or maybe she is just afraid of the technology and tries to throw money at the problem rather than actually learning and spending time and developing a marketing plan, even worse they throw it into the lap of a dim witted agent who knows nothing and just changes the colors on the web site every now and then and they call that a marketing strategy! PLEASE!

Then there is the person that wants to learn and tries and just can't find the right resource or time to do it, and they make a half hearted attempt and give up and say THE INTERNET IS USELESS!

The last is the agent/broker that embraces, learns, flourishes, develops a strategy and overcomes the technology hurdle and like charlie sheen says "WINNING" that is the agent that is my competition, that's the new guy I'm conderned about.

If your in the business and have been for any length of time the business has changed, just like the market has changed, younger tech savvy buyers are coming into the market and they are shopping and they all start online, I would go as far as saying 95% go online first. So as far as I am concerned the web is here to stay, also younger more tech savvy agents are coming on the seen.

By the way If you didnt see the shamless plug of my company up top, I'll repeat it here! http://www.defedemedia.com

Thanks

Matt
