Carlsbad Home Inspector Runs Into Bee Invasion!
Today was another beautiful day in San Diego county. I was halfway through a Carlsbad home inspection. So far, nothing unusual or too exciting had turned up, until I entered the attic area...
As I entered the attic, I could see that the insulation behind the furnace had been disturbed. When I got closer, I was amazed at what I saw. There were mounds of dead honey bees laying on the attic floor! I never did hear what had happened (the seller had already relocated to another State), but I'm glad these bees were not alive! Upon further investigation, it became obvious they had gained access at one of the eave vents that was missing a screen.
I've been reading so many articles asking the question, "Where have all the honey bees gone?". Well, I think they've all come here to San Diego County! Several times in the past few weeks while driving down the freeway, my vision has been completely obliterated as I slam into huge swarms of bees fly a low flight pattern across the roadway in front of me. It's like being hit with a machine gun!
Summertime is here and bee activity will be increasing. Now that you've read Carlsbad Home Inspector Runs Into Bee Invasion, you should "bee wise" and "bee-proof" your home. Take five minutes to walk the perimeter of your home looking for any small openings, loose siding and trim, or missing attic vent screens. You might like honey, but you don't want it in your walls! An ounce of prevention can save a pound of honey! Steve Stenros, a Carlsbad home inspector, is the owner of First Choice Inspections and is a CREIA MCI inspector.
