Idaho Jobless Rate Falls, New Home Foreclosures

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with West Group Real Estate

More than 3,000 new jobs created in April! Idaho Jobless Rate Falls a tenth of a point from a record 9.7 percent to 9.6 percent. April 2010 the rate of unemployment was 9.1 percent.

For Teton County, the unemployment rate dropped almost 3 percent from 9.1 percent in March to 6.7 percent in April. The drop partially contributed to the longer ski season at Targhee.

After 33 months of job declines, April was the fourth straight month that current job totals exceeded earlier years' levels. The economy had 3,600 more jobs than in April 2010.

We have had 9 new applications in Victor alone for business licenses in the last few months.

While we are still seeing more foreclosures hit the market the new home spec house is becoming more of a rare find. The homes that are coming into the market now are a few years older and not finished with as high end materials as the homes that were sold over the last year. I feel this will lead to more consumers building new homes or non distressed homes for sale making it easier for sellers to compete with bank owned property. I think buyers will be faced with a choice between a nicely appointed home or a distress/discounted home.

Our firm plans to hire one or two support staff this year as well as adding a few excellent Realtors to our Team. These kinds of expansions in small business should lead to a more stable economy. The new normal is taking shape.

Harley, I'm glad you are seeing improvements in your area.  I like the term, "the new normal."
