Sonoma Real Estate "Yard Art" - Is This the Real Thing?

Some of the things we see while touring Sonoma real estate for sale are amazing.  Take this fantastic bronze statue of a vaquero that sits in a Eucalyptus grove at a Petaluma horse property---can you tell me if this is a real Frederic Remington?  The sellers have the means to own the genuine thing but I don't know.  (I'm sorry about the photo quality...it was a bit under-exposed so I had to pump up the fill light...)

Vaquero - Kirsten's Sonoma Real Estate Blog

It's not mentioned in the listing information as excluded from the sale and it IS chained to the earth upon which it sits.  If it's real, how much value does it add to the property?  It's a multi-million dollar sale and the home, acreage, vineyards, and equestrian set up would seem to account for the asking price.  So this probably isn't the real thing----or is it?  Do you recognize the signature?

I think think this is always a good question to ask at high end home with sculpture. I'd put it in the offer. If it IS a Remington, it's worth a boodle from what I have seen. I would want to have an expert in to verify that signature. It might be a copy. Or have the owners provide proof of purchase and authenticity.

Hi Kirstin, you posed a really interesting question.  According to my Google research, it is probably a reproduction.  According to one website, a reproduction of that size is currently selling for $11,649.   http://www.frbronze.com/products/lifesize%20bronze/001%20Heroic%20BB.htm  (I did not shop prices.)

According to Frederic Remington Museum website, an authentic bronze will cost at least $75,000 and it will clearly show the name of the foundry where it was made.   http://www.fredericremington.org/page.php?p=85&s=3

Even as a reproduction, it clearly has some value.  I'd make sure to specifically ask if it is staying or going.  If it is chained down, it may be fairly portable thus the perceived need to chain it down.  If it stays, be sure to get it in the offer.

Good post.  Thanks for sharing the picture with us.

Sonoma is beautiful  I always thought that there, the yard art was the flora.  BYOOTIFUL!

Kirsten, Either way I find it to be rather tasteful. I hope it is real though.

Kirsten it should have a verification or edition number on it somewhere. Get a Art museum person to tell whether it is original. Remington's are outrageously high priced.

That one is called "Bronco Buster" Kirsten, with the original being about 22 inches tall you would have to have done some very creative photograghy.  I'm sure it has a ton of value to many, hence the chaining.  I'd bet that someone tried to take it for a ride once or twice before.

Jeff:  Putting it in the offer makes sense...if only from the standpoint of another negotiating tool

Sondra:  Wish I were writing an offer on this place...don't have a buyer for it.  My mom would like the bronze horse and cowboy, however,

Cheryl:  In many cases it is the flora.  The fauna is a big part of it too, though.  Most often it's alive.

Charles:  The cowboy and the horse look pretty fierce.  Not sure I'd like it in my backyard.

Nick:  I didn't see any numbers on it and I think Kevin #6, got it right.  It's a reproduction...since according to Kevin...the original was less than 2 feet tall.  This piece stands somewhere between 10 and 15 feet tall...I'm not good at remembering such things.
