Almost Speechless Sunday:  Our Souvenir From Maine!

Lupines

It's been awhile coming, two years in fact!  June 2009 we took a short vacation to Boston and Boothbay Harbor, Maine.  Off to watch the Lobstah Boat Races and a few days of R&R.  And one of the things we loved the most about Maine?  The lupine flowers!  Just brilliant spikes of color coating the fields!

So our souvenir from the trip?  Some packs of lupine seeds to plant in our home's flower gardens.  Now these aren't the flowers if you're looking for immediate gratification (remind you of real estate?).  They don't bloom the first year, but we're in year two now!!  So out back we've got these beauties.  In the front garden we have a different variety with a few colors, and in the planter pots, plenty more seeds started to populate another place in the yard!  These souvenirs will be bringing joy to our home for many years!

Hope you have fantastic Memorial Day Weekend!

Roger, Actually, these are our flowers!  Two years of waiting, but we've got blooms.  Liz wants to get our own healthy size field of them by the time we're done with them :)

Barbara, Liz was killing the twin bugs, and I leaned more towards the lobster rolls.  Either way, great eating!

Brenda, There's some close parallels with the flowers and real estate careers.  Careful planting and nourishment to get to the end product.  Nothing happens fast, but it happens!

Jerry, We found some online from a place in Maine, so ordered more packets after we planted the few we'd brought back with us.

HI Liz and Bill,

Very Nice, We don't see to many of these in our Area, but I remember my Mom and Gand mother having lupines all over their yards in Holland decades ago, thanks for sharing.

Anita, Expect the butterflies should be showing up soon.  The "monsoon" season we've had seems to have slowed their arrival.

Peter and Linda, We're looking forward to having more of these in our gardens!  I didn't know they came from Holland.

Peggy, Hard to be patient for two years, but worth it!

I have been to Boothbay...I had Chinese food there, not a fan of seafood...lol I love purple flowers...lilacs are my favorites. But these look so pretty too...glad you get to see them in your backyard...rather than taking another trip to Maine.

Endre, Loved it up there, would like to go back again, but Liz's aunt/uncle go up there in mid-June, and that's a tough time for us to disappear for a week.  Our back up agent retired due to health reasons, so we tend to leave town during off season instead.

Cincy, We wouldn't mind another trip up there, but having the flowers right outside the window is pretty nice!

The lupines were some of the neatest flowers we enjoyed while living in New England - how neat you were able to bring the seeds back. They tend to like cooler weather so hopefully they will continue to prosper for you. Boothbay Harbor is one of my favorite Maine places.

Jeff, They're survived one summer here, so I think we'll be okay.  They had the seed packs in plenty of the stores, and we also ordered online to get more once we determined they'd grow here.  Stayed at Brown's Wharf Inn in Boothbay Harbor.  Nice location to enjoy everything, and a nice walk around the area.

Now, that's CA's kind of souvenir -- she's a flower gardener for certain!  They are lovely and a perfect reminder of happy days!
