Tell me what were their names!

ToDAY is May 30th Decoration Day! Tell me what were their names!

A day to remember those who so love our country they gave their lives. No one volunteers to die, no one wants to die, but like one who went before they so loved us that they willingly faced death to save us. So far their collective efforts have seceded. Established in 1868 by General John Logan, then commander of the Grand Army of the Republic by a "general order" to his troops. Decoration Day was a time to visit the graves of our troops and decorate the same with flags and flowers.

Decoration Day now called Memorial Day is sadly just a three day weekend to most.

Guthery was writing about our first troops lost in WW II. 115 brave men were lost only 44 sailors survived an the USS Ruben James DD-245, attacked and sunk by a German submarine at 5:25AM on October 23rd 1941. Roughly six weeks before Pearl Harbor.

If you're reading this thank a teacher. If you're learning this blame a teacher. If you're reading this in English honor our veterans those who risk every thing and those that paid with their lives.

In Flanders Fields

John McCrae, 1915.

"In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below

.
We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields."

"Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

Take the time to watch this!

Now dry your eyes Memorial Day is not about our losses, but rather about our Veterans love and victories! Enjoy the time that's what they wanted for us. God bless them all!

"Tell me what were their names, tell me what were their names,
Did you have a friend on the good Reuben James?
What were their names, tell me, what were their names?
Did you have a friend on the good Reuben James"

Woody Guthery

We have our flag flying high today.

So many men and women have given their lives for our freedom.

I never forget that and don't take my civil liberties lightly.

Bill I can not think of a way that this could have been said any better "No one volunteers to die, no one wants to die, but like one who went before they so loved us that they willingly faced death to save us."

Bill,

You come up with the best stuff!  Wish my Dad & Mother were alive to read this.  Then again, they're probably smiling about what I just said.

Mike,

I wish they were too!

I take great comfort in being able to talk to mine frequently.

But, it's what they've instilled in us! Mom and Dad live in Michigan or Fla depending on the weather, but Dad's always in the back seat when I'm driving and sitting next to me when were in the same state.

The people I feel sorry for are the one's who don't have or understand that.

God Bless our parents and Grandparents for we can never thank them enough. All we can do is pray we inspired our children.

You were right, I did have to dry my eyes! I wish I could thank each and everyone of the men with a handshake for the freedoms they gave me. I know they didn't want to give their lives, but they were willing to do so for the greatest country in the world.

Todd,

That would be eerie!

But, we can thank them. We can uphold what they believed in!

Life. Liberty. The pursuit of happiness. Equal opportunity!
