TEXAS IS HEATING UP ~ PREPARE YOUR HOME

Already here in South Texas, the temperatures are on the rise.  This past week here in The Woodlands, it got as hot as 102!  That is HOT for this early in the season.  Because of the heat, as a homeowner there are many things that you can do do help prepare your home for the hot summer months.Summer

  • Have your Air Conditioning system checked by a licensed professional.  Checking your system thoroughly will help the system run more efficiently and hopefully will help you to avoid a malfunction.
  • Inspect the shrubs around the outside of the home near the a/c unit.  Make sure they are not blocking the air flow to these units.
  • If you have a pool, check the equipment and make sure that pumps and valves are working properly.
  • Have your attic inspected for insulation needs.  Many times, having additional insulation or blowing in foam or fiber insulation can help your home stay immeasurably cooler.
  • Consider solar screens or even having solar tinting put on your windows.  Many of the newer window tinting looks great from the outside and helps you to lower your summer electric bill.
  • Use ceiling fans and other fans throughout the home.  Just having the blowing air can help you feel cooler and not crank up the a/c so much.
  • Inspect your sprinkler system to make sure that all of the pop ups are working as well as the zones being fully functional.  In this heat it is extremely important that you keep your yard watered in order to keep the area around the slab moist.

Taking a bit of time now to make sure all of your systems are functioning and working well.  Going the extra mile right now can help you to have a cool and stress-free summer!

Have a great summer!  By the way...the picture has nothing to do with houses but I wanted to show off my handsome 18 year old son!  :)  How did he get so much taller than me????

102 degrees already? That's brutal. It was just warm enough here today for the neighbor kids to swim in the pool ... barely. Good advice for preparing your home for the heat.

Great tips!  It is starting to get this hot in Arizona as well, so this would be good advice for homeowner's here as well.
