100 HOMES IN MY SUBDIVISION AND YET I AM ALONE.

By
Real Estate Agent with David Tracy Real Estate #555994

We had new neighbors move in this week. They are across the street and to the left one home. Last night when we came home it was dark; but by their little porch light I could see that they were sitting out enjoying the Tarzan Hot Balmy night air. (yeah just a little sarcastic)

I hollared over to them (because in Texas we hollar or mosey over), "hello folks!"... and they waved back.

It occurred to me that in this subdivision as well as the last ones we lived in; no one ever spoke to one another. Most of my neighbors work very hard and a few are retired and are busy working in their yard or doing taxidermy stuff in their garage.

As a REALTOR® no one has ever asked me to look for a neighborhood where all the neighbors are friendly and outgoing. Where street festivities are the norm (like on TV) or a neighbor holds a big back yard BBQ with all the neighbors coming over. And everyone knows everyone else.

The only neighbor I got that was close to the above description was the nosy one next door. She was more like Gladys Kravitz who lived across the street from Darin and Samantha on Bewitched.

I guess it takes work to get to know your neighbors now. Just like it takes work to market yourself. And isn't it a good thing for your neighbors to know you sell real estate. Yeah it does.

So I guess tomorrow I will mosey on over and say howdy and get to know them. You never know who they may know that needs a home or wants to sell one.

I am fortunate to live in a neighborhood where we know each other. The HOA, block parties and National Night Out all help to create a sense of community.

Sussie....in most of the subdivisions that I've sold over the years, they are all friendly, tight knit communities....they block off the street during the 4th of July and have a neighborhood block party....they have neighborhood cookouts....they do progressive dinners....they have neighborhood christmas parties....I think you need to move here!!!

Sussie...

I really don't know my neighbors other to say hello. With that being said, after a tornado many years ago we all checked to make sure that everyone was OK!

Whether you get business from them or not, it's a good thing to get to know your neighbors a little better.

When I was a kid we lived on a dead end street with about a dozen homes.  We knew everybody!  I miss those times.  Our subdivision has neighborhood parties sometimes, yet it's different.

Have to love the photo of Gladys -- a classic.  I now live on a street where we all know one another and have a number of block parties and holiday parties.  My favorite is during the end-of-year Holidays, in which we have a rotational party.

One home handles the appetizers... the next the main course... and a third home the dessert.  We migrate from house to house as a group.  We have another house that serves as the drop off center for the kids and some of our teens do a group baby-sitting for us.  A lot of fun!  Eric

Friendships are things you have to work on. If a person doesn't put their foot forward and create a closeness with neighbors then it doesn't happen.

Good neighborhood friends are a real asset, kids grow up together, neighbors watch over each other, lifetime memories are shared!

Sussie, Texas is a lot like Tennessee. We're mostly friendly but more and more you're seeing people NOT knowing their neighbors. I don't really like that part.
