Today, it was just storming here in Chicago and so, basically, because it is a Memorial Day weekend, I decided to think about a class I took yesterday.

The Class:  Communication

How effective are we in communicating?

Do we know what we want to convey?

Do we know what the person we are talking to actually is hearing what we are trying to convey or are we sending the wrong message?

When we make a commitment to something or someone, what is the level of that commitment?  Some make assumptions that the level of commitment as their own belief/commitment system.

CONFLICT is created due to ineffective communication.

Short Sales, as some have expressed in classes that I have attended for the banks, that the listing agent doesn't communicate enough.

The best way to make sure that communication is kept open is to put our words in writing before we can respond to inquiries or questions by our clients or agents.  Read it, edit it and then make sure that we communicate to them and that it is confirmed that they have received the communication.

Today, I received a call and a email from my client about showings at her house today.  She wanted feedback right away and it only had been two hours and yes, it is a holiday weekend.  While I have discussed the response time and it is in writing as well, this seller just needed to know even though she knew.

We all need ways in which we can improve our communication so as not to send mixed messages, making sure that the information is understood and the lines are kept open.

Barb....great post.  I think that communication is key.  What's most important is that we communicate exactly what we intend.  Otherwise, we communicate what they want to hear.  Could be 2 totally different things.

Good morning Barb;  you are correct as to communication.  My buyer backed out of the short sale they were in contract with, i guessing poor communication on the part of the listing agent.  Lucky for my buyers they found a better house.

Larry, total agree and working on it myself.

Ken:  When a deal doesn't pull together, I believe it is God's way of protecting your buyer and bringing them the home that they really need.
