Another Batch of the No-No Photos

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with George Sheldon Photographer

Let's see what's in this edition of the no-no photos. (These are actual marketing photos I've found for properties for sale, and include my comments about the photos.

What a beautiful corner of the house. So artistic. I wonder what the front of the house looks like...or maybe this property only comes in one corner?

This property has a shower, with a curtain. Really.

Hmmm. Are the mattresses for sale, or the desk and chair?

This wouldn't be a bad shot, but why use a flash to light the room. Isn't the ceiling light enough? (No.)

This property comes with a movable fireplace. You just hook up the trailer to your vehicle, and take the fireplace with you. It brings new meaning to the word campfire.  (Why is this photo a part of a marketing package?)

I would have used the flash, but my batteries were weak. Really?

Those are some really good examples of what not to do with your real estate photos.  The photo of the mattress and desk are funny and I especially like the dark living room and dining room photos.

George - I can't believe that people actually use these photos and see nothing wrong with them.  Pretty funny!  And yet also very very sad...:)  Poor homeowners...they don't have a good realtor working for them.

THAT IS bad, and yes some really do NOT use their heads.  My mom's agent could have been one of those, but fortunately, my mom stopped her from taking pics until she could straighten up.  Not like my mom has a messy house, because she doesn't, but for example, she keeps bed sheets over the couch to protect & keep it clean.  The Realtor was going to take a pic with it just the way it was.  As I said, fortunately my mom was more diligent that the Realtor!

I was looking through MRIS last night and saw a photo obviously taken from inside a car.  It was a bank owned property, but surely the agent should have gotten out of his/her car to take the photo.  If those photos are not copy-write protected, I could post here.  Not sure????

I love your "no-no" posts. The pictures are hilarious and simply amazes me that someone would actually think they are good for selling the property....Ohwell.

George - I got a good laugh out of these! Are these actually photos that another agent used? I sure hope not that is pathetic.

George, I wonder if you posted some of these to Localism in your area if homeowners would see it---it would make them aware of this.  These all belong in the "discard" pile.

These are some bad examples of photo's if they are in your neck of the woods don't complain, use it towards your advantage.

To offer a possible scenario to Natalie's comment, on the foreclosure's sometimes those house's are in neighborhoods where the Realtor is not comfortable getting out of the car. Been there many times myself.

George,

Okay, that fireplace in the back yard is too much. Are you really pulling these out of your MLS? I mean, I understand the dark photo, we see those all the time, but come on. You must have some true photographers in Lancaster.

Sometimes in looking at pictures in the MLS one must question what an agent is thinking.  I look at pictures of corners of rooms and think this shows what?!

Too funny.  I wish I could post a few from our MLS, 'cause we have some real winners.  Alas they are copyrighted  :(

Hi George,

I am astounded by the photos on our MLS, it is just crazy. I am actually becoming a fan of one or two good outside shots, maybe then I might want to actually see the inside of the property. My wonderful wife and I took the time to pull up all the million $ plus homes here in our area, 112 in all. It was shocking. What got me started was "losing" a 1.75 mill listing last week....way overpriced , way overpriced, and the agent from the "Luxury Homes Specialist" took pics that were actually childish. If I had the guts I would post them here, but I will just wait on the expired listing that I know is coming and make my pitch with great photos. Wish you were closer, I could use a pro sometimes, I use a nicer Panasonic with filters and stuff I am just getting to understand. But I do know enough to take pic in the right light, use a flash or lighting source, and to take a lot of photos and pic the nice ones . Keep up the good work.............Mike N

These photos would crack me up if they weren't giving such a bad image of the professionalism of members within our industry!

haha, great great great.  I dont know how these people sell homes in the 21st century with people looking on the internet first and seeing those pictures of your home, why would they even want to stop by and look at the home.....crazy world with crazy people.  Love the pics, keep them coming.
