No Barbecue Today

No Barbecue Today

There will be no barbecue here today. And it looks like this grill is still waiting for spring and summer.

But the barbecue isn't really important.  What is important is that each of us find our own way to honor those who have fallen to protect our country.

I like a poem written by Moina Michael in 1915:

We cherish too, the Poppy red

That grows on fields where valor led,

It seems to signal to the skies

That blood of heroes never dies.

Great thought for the day, Gary!  It is great to see so many on AR today paying tribute to those who died in service to our nation.  Well done!

Gary, it is snowing in Navada?  Wow!  Poor thing, you cannot even garden, yet!

Memorial Day should not be about the start of summer or BBQ, it is about honoring those individuals who have fought to keep us free and lost their lives.  We owe them and their families to pass on to our children to remain free individuals in a free nation.

Gary- beautiful poem.  Living in Florida, we forget that not everyone has 80+ degree weather this time of year.  Hope you can fire up the grill soon.

Bruce,  I have really enjoyed seeing all the tributes.  It is a special day.

Lee & Carol,  I'm glad that you liked the poem.

Sharon, It is an emotional day.  I hope it is a great day for you too.

Simone,  I took this photo today at my mom's house in Wyoming.  We got about a foot of snow in this storm.  And it is important that future generations realize the sacrifices that have been made for them.

Kathy,  I'm glad that you like the poem.  It is short but it packs a lot of emotion.  I really didn't expect this much bad weather here this year -- but I can always barbecue in a few weeks.

Hi Gary, what is covered up with snow in front of the railing?  Is it a snow mobile?

Liz,  That is the barbecue grill with about a foot of new snow on top.

Anna, It is an important day of reflection.  I'll remember and reflect no matter where I am in the world next year.

Bruce, I was excited to find this poem. The author also originated the idea of wearing red poppies on Memorial Day.

Rebecca,  Yes it is snow - we got about a foot.  At least it didn't interrupt my Internet so I could put together the tribute.

Elizabeth, I am staying warm.  The snow has stopped and the sun is out - it is a beautiful day.

Samantha,  The poem was actually inspired by the poem that you posted today, "In Flanders Fields."

I wish I could send you some cool weather -- there is more than enough here and we still have more snow in the forecast.
