Today was a wonderful day.....the sun was shining and it was windy but my Dad came over and we played in the dirt
in my yard!
For the past 3-4 years I have wanted to dig up my flower beds in my very tiny back yard so that I could have a small garden.
We started it last year but with the weather not cooperating and a very busy real estate schedule...
that I am very thankful of....
The weeds and grass had completely filled in the flower beds again!
Today we dug and removed the weeds and the grass.
Then we tried some thing new....
we dug up the dirt about 6 inches or so down....
then we added layers of newspaper
5-6 sheets...
covered that with dirt and then planted tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers!
I can't wait for July 22....since they say that they take 52 days to produce tomatoes!!!
Nothing is better than a sun warmed fresh picked tomato from the garden!!!
It isn't a lot but it is a good start. My brother said I could still get some lettuce and radishes in so I will do that this week as well!
Here are a few pictures......I am also including a few of my columbine plants in the front yard....they are gorgeous with all the rain and cool
weather we have gotten this year!!!

I was confused when you said you wanted to “dig up my flower beds in my very tiny back yard so that I could have a small garden.” Over here at my house, “flower beds” ARE a small garden. If you don’t want your columbines — I already see that you do, but if you don’t — ship them out to me!
Russel...I am always amazed at the different words regionally we use! LOL I could send some seeds if you want! THe columbines all came up as volenteers!!! Every year they re-seed themselves!
Oh my goodness Deborah ~ You were out digging and planting over the weekend and we were turning on our heaters and trying to keep warm! At least there were parts of the country that were experiencing some normal weather!
Can't wait to see how your garden turns out. Hope you write about in July, after those tomato's have ripened. Nothing like fresh sliced tomato's in the summer!
Absolutely LOVE the flower beds!!!!!
Terrie....I had a sweatshirt on for most of the day....sun kept going behind the clouds every time I took it off!!! Uuggghhhh I will post a picture of the garden's progress!!!
Thanks so much Kely!!!
