The Secret to a Happy Marriage

I received this by email and I have no idea who the  author is - my wife thought it was too good not to share - I'm still wishing she would have seen this when we first got married -you'll see why when you read this post.

old coupleA man and woman had been married for more than 60 years. They had shared
everything. They had talked about everything. They had kept no secrets
from each other except that the little old woman had a shoe box in the
top of her closet that she had cautioned her husband never to open or
ask her about.

For all of these years, he had never thought about the box, but one day
the little old woman got very sick and the doctor said she would not
recover.

In trying to sort out their affairs, the little old man took down the
shoe box and took it to his wife's bedside. She agreed that it was time
that he should know what was in the box. When he opened it, he found two
crocheted dolls and a stack of money totaling $95,000.

He asked her about the contents. "When we were to be married," she said, Crochet Doll
" my grandmother told me the secret of a happy marriage was to never
argue. She told me that if I ever got angry with you, I should just keep
quiet and crochet a doll."

The little old man was so moved; he had to fight back tears. Only two
precious dolls were in the box. She had only been angry with him two
times in all those years of living and loving. He almost burst with
happiness.

"Honey," he said,  " that explains the dolls, but what about all of this
money?  Where did it come from?"

"Oh," she said, "that's the money I made from selling the dolls."

Strong Woman

Now for the Prayer...

Dear Lord, I pray for Wisdom to understand my man; Love to forgive him;
And
Patience for his moods;

Because Lord, if I pray for Strength,

I'll beat him to death because I don't know how to crochet.

Keith -That's what I was thinking! I've only been married for 5 years - but she could have made and sold a LOT of those dolls!

Michael Creel - My Daddy always said it this way, "IF Momma ain't happy - then nobody's happy!" i like your way better.

Bill - I'm glad you enjoyed it. Is that because you wish your wife could crochet too? :D

Little Siss Marcie - My wife has been making the same afgan for me since we were engaged 6 years ago - she can crochet -but she would probably kill me if she had to depend on that to get her anger out on. Lots and Lots of prayer. :D

The secret to a happy marriage.  Repeat these phrases often.

Yes Dear.

Bill B. - Don't forget: "I'm sorry" (That "Yes Dear" one gets me in trouble now! I think I've said it too often.):D

Brian,  Heart warming post ...thanks much for sharing.  By the way, my husband was pretty much forbidden to call me "Dear" since way back in our early years of marriage, for the only time he used it was if he was trying to make a point or wasn't happy.   So...I asked him not to call me Dear anymore and he hasn't used it since.  :)  Smart Man!!

That was too funny! I'm not sure what the right answer is but that was a funny perspective.

12/02/2007 12:44 PM by Christina Bennani (RE/MAX Colonial)

The right answer is

"If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.  Keep momma happy!"

Brian:

Great post, having been married for 23 wonderful years, I can attest to the saying if MOM is not happy, no one is happy!!

I have  read something similar but it had to do with golf-balls, none the less I enjoyed reading it.

 Thank you.
