TRY THIS LITTLE EXPERIMENT...IT INVOLVES SMILING WHILE TALKING

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with people first...then business Ran Right Realty 636943 licensed to thrill

For the best results on this, go to a mirror and just start talking. Here's the catch....I want you to try to smile as you are talking. That's right! For those of you who are too eager or too lazy to engage a mirror, start speaking out loud and trying to smile...begin now

SMILE OR GUILE?

If you are clenching your mouth, you are not doing it right OR you are engaging mouth muscles that have not been used enough. If you feel slightly awkward and suspect that you are coming across as disingenuous, then we have some practicing to do

THE SMILING CURVE

You see you have to reach the point where there is no effort and the mouth muscles operate off of memory and not instruction. That is the big difference here. So, don't be discouraged on start-up, but do practice privately until you are ready to go public...

NOT EVERYTHING THAT SMILES IS GOLD

There are certain words that are hard to speak while smiling and those words may be different for all. Also, the smile and the words have to harmonize and match up. Saying good morning while smiling works very well yet arguing while smiling may not come across very well...

IT WORKS BEST ON AUTO-PILOT

Mastery of this is when you are smiling and talking without realizing it and your business and professional life is soaring. A spring in your step may be present too. You may contribute this to this phenomenon.

YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED IT IN ACTION

I have seen this in play at pre-schools with teachers. They just naturally smile to the kids when speaking and to the parents when they come in. They don't even know they are doing it. Very inviting and pleasant. I have also seen this at birthday parties.

HERE IS CONCLUSIVE PROOF

You see you cannot sing the Happy Birthday song to someone or in front of others without smiling. In fact, this is an excellent training song to learn the "smile is worthwhile" learning process technique. Go ahead beginning now and start singing Happy Birthday as follows:

1. First without smiling...you will get the point of the post no problem

2. Second, do it while smiling and again, the point of the post is present

Smile and the world smiles with you...

Richie,

My challenge is my slightly overgrown mustache. People can't tell what my lips are doing. And NO, shaving it off, or trimming isn't an option.

Richie to Rich...at first glance, this proved challenging...however, you have options. Raise your eyebrows while talking and/or gently rock your head from to side to side while speaking. Don't over due this, but play with it. Another option is dying your beard all white. This in its self is inviting. Perhaps grabbing the stomach while saying Ho Ho Ho might help...It didn't hurt that guy with a beard and full mustache that we all love and leave out milk and cookies for...See Alan for additional Mustache ideas....

No mustache, no beard here, just a suggestion that you smile broad enough that your teeth show - Reference Alan May. Another good way to practice is to ask a 3 year old a silly question. Or read him a book about a boy named "Stink". I truely believe that Kindegarten teachers and children's librarians are born with this skill...Makin' me smile just thinking about it!

Have you ever tried to laugh without smiling?  Try it!  I don't want to rob you of the experience, other than to say, you will end up breaking out into a real laugh, and then, can't help but smile.....
