Saint Petersburg's All Children's Hospital - Disaster Proof Construction

Last night I was watching the local news and they did an amazing report on Saint Petersburg's All Children's Hospital. All Children's Hospital is a non-profit hospital located in southern Pinellas County. It has been around for a long time and has an excellent reputation. Like so many hospitals, it is in need of expansion and that expansion has started!

Expected to be completed early in 2009, the new 9 floor complex will have 240 beds - it will also have it's own generators that will have the ability to take over during an emergency situation and can supply the hospital with power for up to 3 weeks! A situation like what happened in New Orleans will not be a problem at the new All Children's Hospital! Not only will it have it's own generators, the building is touted to be virtually disaster proof - withstanding not only hurricanes, but also other types of disasters, such as bombs!

The current hospital has a helipad for emergency arrivals - the new facility will have a helipad capable of handling military sized helicopters! Indeed an enormous upgrade!
