I'M ON PAGE ONE OF GOOGLE TODAY

I'M ON PAGE ONE OF GOOGLE TODAY

I'M ON PAGE ONE OF GOOGLE TODAY  I just checked Google for Alameda Realtorsto see what page I was on.  I found that I was on page one.  The last time I checked I was on page 9999 (maybe an exaggeration, but not far off).  I have a question.  What does that mean?

Alameda Real Estate Evelyn Kennedy on Google

I was overjoyed that I am on page one.  Then I ask my husband to check to see if I am on page one on his computer.  He tells me he couldn't find me, so I guess I am back to page 9999.

My question to you ActiveRain genius is how can I be on page one on my computer and be so low on my husband's computer?  Does this placing relate to the fact that I am writing my blogs on my computer and my computer remembers what I am doing?  Or is my computer just trying to make me feel good about blogging?  What gives?

I talked with a friend who agreed that it must have something to do with my blogging on my computer.  She said she had a similar experience when she logs on to Zillow.com to check the value Zillow has assigned to a house she may be listing.  She has been checking on the house for 4 months and the value has been steadily rising, but other houses in the area are not following suit.  My friend, who is not a techie, says it has something to do with computer foibles.

All you wonderful and knowledgeable ActiveRainers, please help.

I think extra-terrestrials are messing with your emotions, Evelyn! Weird. I am waiting for a legitimate explanation.

Mac:  What?  I didn't do any of those things, but I will as soon as find out how to do them.  Just kidding, except for the turning off third party toolbars.  Is that really something I can do or are you teasing me?  Thanks for the suggestions.

Steve:  Yes, you are right.  Its those darn extra-terrestrials. They are getting to be a pain.  Or maybe I just imagined seeing my name on page 1 of Google.

First, you must be doing something right, you were on the front page.

I did a search for Real Estate Agent in Alameda Ca, you were in the #7 spot. Adding an "s" to agent, Real Estate Agents in Alameda, Ca moved you up to #5. Real Estate Agents in Alameda, California is a #6.

You didn't indicate what you search term was, or wheater your husband had the exact same term in the search. This will effect the results.

If I do a search for real exstate agent right now, It will bring up agents in my local area unless I'm specific about where I am looking.

I'm no expert but these are things that I've learned in doing searches. The important thing is to continue getting noticed by Google.

By the way, You are on the first page of the images page when I used the same search.

Good Luck!

Kim: I want to know too.  Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.

Tom:  It is good to know that I am not crazy.  Both my husband and I used the search terms "Alameda Realtors".  Thanks so much for vindicating me.  I guess my computer isn't possessed after all.  Heck, I was just thinking of writing a blog about my possessed computer.

Evelyn, Marc is on the right track.  Google keeps track of you, and alters it's search results to what it thinks is most relevant to you.  If you're logged into your Google account, results can be influenced.  Logging out of Google and clearing cache, or better yet using someone else's computer entirely might be the most accurate way to know your true rankings.

Evelyn...

You have to check results on a neutral computer ... it's hard to know where you really stand!

I see you already got some good answers. I also though that it was related to Google keeping cookies on your computer and knowing what you like to see, and you apparently like to see yourself on page 1, so that's what Google does. Now I'm really hoping that your husband would like to see you on page 1, too...................

Yes you have me pegged.  I frequently check where I am on Google.  I assumed, because I have been blogging a lot, I might have moved from 9999 to maybe pag 20.  As for my husband, he's OK with where ever I am just as I don't bother him too much.  And yes, I will get rid of the cookies on my computer and refresh and clear my my cache.  What is a cache, by the way?  Thanks for your comments.

You have to clear your own computer's memory of where you have been. That will neutralize it and give you the3 correct public results.

Just keep blogging. Keep linking phrases and words in your articles to various points of interest. You'll show up every time.

And you're right. I googled Alameda Realtors, and aside from the realty brokerages, there was a sprinkling of inidividual agents on the first page.  What was strange is that one of our ex-realtors Jim N. is still showing up as a realtor for G&L!

You are right about Jim.  I was surprised that he keeps showing up.  How do you think that happened?  Do you think he paid for SEO and his contract hasn't expired?  Strange indeed.

I've been told its because you blog and search YOURSELF and your search terms on your computer - but others probably do not. So doing a "cold search" from someone else's computer to get an accurate reading is a good thing to do periodically.

Or, you may have simply made Google happy that particular moment in time. Google is changing their algorithms again, and no one knows what they are looking for, remember.

Boy, do I ever love spell check!

Michelle:  Yes, I need to try Alameda Realtors on one of our office computers that I don't use.

Jon:  Maybe, but I am skeptical because I have only been blogging on AR since February.   I don't think I have a large enough body of work to catch Google's eye.  But thank you for your kind comments.  Did you make that comment about spell check because of my blog?  I use spell check about 5 or 6 times before I make my blog public.
