Have you ever looked up at the soffit of your home and noticed a piece of plastic pipe protruding through it?
Have you ever wondered what it is there for?
That is a secondary discharge line from your Attic mounted Air Handler Unit.
As air flows through the coils of your air handler......
Moisture is removed from the air and drips into the condensate pan under the coils.
The accumulated moisture, then discharges through the primary line to the exterior of your home,
The system works just fine until..... A line gets clogged....
That is when your secondary discharge line takes over.
The condensate pan under the coils begins to overflow.
The EMERGENCY secondary catch pan then begins to discharge this overflow through the secondary line which is usually placed in a VERY conspicuous location.
Usually over a window.... So that You will SEE IT and realize there's a problem before your ceiling becomes saturated with water and collapses.
