Unofficial ActiveRain Blogging Report - May 2011…

May Blogging Figures ~ ActiveRainWow! What a month. This month we had three major contests/challenges come to a close. There was the first annual ActiveRain PhotoBloggers Group, The May 31 Day Challenge, and the ActiveRain Collage Challenge all geared towards incentivising members to do what is good for business - BLOG.

The numbers speak for themselves, 14 - 2,000+ post days with the low being 1,097 posts on Sunday May 8 which was Mothers Day. Quite understandable.

So my 2¢ question for the day: do contests / competiton  motivate you or the membership? What would really, really motivate you to blog every day without fail? I would really like to get your input.

This month, the Management has put out another challenge to members, the June Mobile Marketing Challenge. You will be given 2,000 ActiveRain Points just for entering and the opportunity to win some cool prizes. I wouldn't mind having a cool ActiveRain Tee. This really looks to be a fun contest and get those who are not currently using QR codes to do so.

So C'mon, Shoot, Write, Blog - It does a business good...

Hi Michael - I entered two out of three contests.  The 31 days challenge merely requires me to blog everyday rather than blogging a few times a week.  I still post the same number of posts overall.  I did not enter the collage contest as they were only awarding 100 points which is not much of an incentive.  I'm glad you highlighted the June challenge.  If you logon at the wrong time you miss the post announcing the challenge.

Michael, As far as what motivates one to blog more, I'm not there. Lately I'm trying to blog better. A contest to blog every day creates a habit, but is it a good habit?

Off your question, but what I found interesting in your table was the lowest blog days - they're on the weekend.  (The holiday was a no brainer.)  So, either more people are working the weekend with no computer access, taking some much needed time of or are working with cilents.

Michael:  I went & did a bunch of QR codes, put them everywhere & they didn't work!  Argggg. I am tired of the 'challenges'.  Business is challenge everyday.  How do I make money everyday?

Contests are very motivating, gives us that dangling carrot to achieve more by doing more.

The statistics speak for themselves and to me are amazing. I tried the 31 day challenge but early on due to serious lap top issues missed a day. Then late in the month I wrote a blog on my personal lap top and it died a quick death when I was writing the tags for my activerain blog. I wrote more blogs this alst month than ever before. It was very hard to do. We all still have to make a living in some phase of Real Estate and need to realize we are not professional bloggers and AR is not paying the rent.

Have a contest where if miss a day or twp its pk as the contest is based on totla blogs submitted for the month. The total ahs to be achievable.

Michael,

Love this data.  Interesting.  Also, I appreciate the link and sharing about the new June Challenge.  I've been so busy with clients, I hadn't seen it yet.

All the best, Michelle

I don't write as many posts as I do comments, but I try to get look at AR everyday. I do think that the contests movtivate some, even I have participated in one so far and will get involved with the mobile marketing one!

I hate to come clean...but the points is what keeps blogging top of mind for me...although two days into June and I'm still doing it.  I know there were at least three days last month where it took every last ounce of energy...I do these challenges happily in November and December...but I'm just too busy right now...

I will be watching this one.  Do not understand how the QR works.  I have got them but do not use them because I have not figured out how to control the size of them!

Those daily challenges are tough--especially if you like to write content-oriented posts with lots of hyperlinks and things. I've tried them a few times and they really begin to take away from my human face-to-face time.

I really appreciate the contests...I try to faithfully blog everyday, if I miss I make it up on the weekends. I'm working hard to 100K and anyway i can go for extra points motivates me greatly. So, bring on the motivation - just not sure I have time for the Kodak QR challenge...I'm thinking.

Some of the contests I love.  They force you out of your comfort zone and get you to try something new.  Some are just too time cosuming to make it worth your while.  All of them serve to get you to blog more and to blog about things you might not otherwise think of writing about!  Now, share with us how you get those stats!
