What's a Jiffy Pop REALTOR, anyway?
As I was checking in with AR yesterday, I came across BLiz's post about Blogging for Business. (See: "Blogging for Business Isn't Like Microwaving Popcorn!")
As they cleverly pointed out, when you are blogging for business, you expect it to be a little like microwaving popcorn.... you put it in the nuker, heat it up for a couple of minutes and -PRESSTO!- instant hot prospects!
...If only....
It was further down the blog post that the Jiffy Pop REALTOR occurred to me. Do you remember Jiffy Pop? It came in an aluminum foil "pan" with a foil cover. Back in the 70s it was pretty neat stuff.
You had to start heating it over the stove top... (that's the thing with the circles on top of it that get really hot...) You shook the pan over the heat and waited.... and waited.... and waited to hear a >pop!<
The thing about "Jiffy" Pop is that it was anything BUT "jiffy". As BLiz mentioned about Blogging for Business: ...the one attribute you need? PATIENCE! If it was EASY, every agent in the world would be blogging for business.
Jiffy Pop wasn't any easier than making popcorn in a pot in oil... It might have been a little less messy, but ONLY if you kept it in constant motion.
So, Take BLiz's advice- have fun with it and keep at it.
Soon, you will hear a POP! Followed by a few more >POPS<. Next thing you know, you will have a full pan of popcorn to share with your friends.
And you will have earned every kernel!

Jennifer, Thanks for the mention! :) We're learning how to get the heat just right to get thos Pops going :)
I used to love Jiffy Pop Popcorn! It was so cool to pop! Anyway, you are right, it was anything but Jiffy :)! Patience is paramount to blogging for business and these days, most of us are anything but. Terrific post!
Yes I too remember Jiffy Pop - we loved to make it! What a great marketing job they did with Jiffy Pop cause we all remember it. Is it still around.
This surely does apply to real estate blogging and prospecting - patience pays off. We're working on closing 3 active rain referrals this month or early next month. Didn't happen over night.
Hi Jennifer.....I love popcorn.....you can eat your popcorn while you're blogging....but make sure you blog.....don't get it in the keyboard....ma
BLiz- you two are so "mention-able"! Thanks for the inspiration!
Brenda- Thanks! And Jiffy Pop was kind of funny... we all loved it once it was done, but what a pain to get it going. I remember shaking the daylights out of it until I thought my arm would fall off just to hear a pop!
ABanana- I'm not sure if Jiffy Pop is still around... I'll have to check next time I'm at the store! CONGRATS on your referral closings! ...THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!!
Ma- I have had to impose a strict "no eating" policy over the computers because of crumbs...
Jennifer...thanks for the words of motivation. I do remember Jiffy popcorn, you're right...it was a slow process but this day and time we want everything right now. Sometimes I do catch myself getting discouraged with the blogging. I need to learn patience!
Kim- You and me both! It's easier to drop it and look at "something shiny", but we have to just keep plugging away.. :)
"You had to start heating it over the stove top... (that's the thing with the circles on top of it that get really hot...)"
Jennifer... you made me laugh! Every time I used to "try" to make Jiffy pop, I would end up with the thing in flames!! Fortunately, for me, PATIENCE is my middle name...
Jennifer - Ok, seriously now. It did take awhile before I was able to turn my AR blog into a lead generator but once it started "popping", it just became more of an incentive for me to just keep making more and more "popcorn". I'm now eating "popcorn" a couple times a week these days. :)
Donne- Glad you liked that one! lol!! And that's great- I have to remind myself to be patient with it....
Peggy Patience- I think many a home was nearly burned down by Jiffy Pop... I can remember leaving it on the stove without the constant wiggling of the pan and you got Charcoal Pop instead....!
Jennifer, I've had charcoal pop on the stove, but I used to make perfect JP on the campfire! I'm off to comment on Bliz! Thanx for re-blogging this!
I loved that popcorn and making it too! Ah, to be young again, lol.
Jenn,
Glad things are "popping." I remember when JiffyPop came out. Let's just say it was a very long time ago.
Steve
I'm sure glad you explained what that thing in the kithen was. Back in da' ole' days we had Jiffy Pop too & usually the kitchen filled quickly with smoke!
