ALAMEDA WALKS  FARMER'S MARKET AND SAND CASTLE CONTEST

ALAMEDA WALKS FARMER'S MARKET AND SAND CASTLE CONTEST  The Alameda Recreation and Parks Department sponsors ALAMEDA WALKS a program started in 2003. The goal of the program was to get people out of their homes on Saturday mornings for a little exercise and a chance to learn a little about the City of Alameda.

Alameda Walks' fourth walk of the year is a walk to Crab Cove, the Farmer's Market and Robert Crown Memorial State Beach to visit the Sand Castle Contest on Saturday June 4 at 9 a.m. The walk will start at Lower Washington Park Tennis Courts in West Alameda.

The first stop will be Crab Cove which is part of the East Bay Regional Park District.  In the visitors center you can see bay creatures in the 800 gallon aquarium system.  Its goal is to help the public understand the environmental importance of the San Francisco Bay.  Outside the center is Crab Cove Marine Protected Area which was designated at the first estuarine marine reserve in California.

The second stop is the West Alameda Farmers Market which is open Tuesdays and Saturday from 9am to 1pm.  The produce is fresh, seasonal and delicious.

Evelyn, looks like a great way to get some exercise, and promote the City's retail area!   Good job!

Joan:

I love the walks.  They are usually only and 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours long and I learn so much.  Even thought I have lived in Alameda for 38 years, there are still lots of things to learn about my city.  And I get some exercise.
