Another shot from this weekend's air show at Jones Beach. This fits in the category of wonderful and thrilling things to watch. Not at all sure I'd like to be there. I suspect it would make me lose my lunch. It's particularly terrifying to me as an observer when they're flying in formation, too close to allow room for error.
Geri, I love to watch them too. I agree with you, it can be both thrilling and scary all at the same time as you watch.
I have been to a few air shows and I have to agree they really are something to see.
I just saw on my local news that the Air Force base near me is turning 70 with some great events in a couple of weeks. Gotta see if an air show is on the list. I've never been to one.

These types of things always amaze me... how can they stay focused on where they are going that fast? Great photo.
Vickie - It is terrifying as they come swooping down toward the ground, only to flip and rise like a phoenix.
Stan - They are thrilling, but chicken that I am, I wouldn't want anyone I loved to be in the cockpit.
Tammy - If they have it you should go. It's an incredible thing to witness -- like a well choreographed dance.
Jon - It amazes me how close they can be and complete those maneuvers in perfect unison.
Ted - I agree with you. The noise is so much a part of the thrill of it all.
Air shows always amaze me - the noise level is high - but the thrill is always there!

I love to watch Air Shows and growing up there were so many that I enjoyed. We had an Air Force Base in my town (Novato, CA) and they had Air Shows regularly. I never got tired of watching them.... it was so exciting to me. I was always in amazement to see all the stunts that they did. Great Shot Geri... and thanks for bringing back wonderful memories!!!
Several years ago I had quite a treat on a Sunday afternoon. While watching the Indians "win" a game at the stadium, we could also see most of the air show.............excellent day!
A great symbol of freedom. I love to watch the air shows when they come to Battle Creek.
As swifty as those planes fly, I'm astounded that you managed to capture one! Air Shows are always an exciting event to attend and see.
