Trulia Voices Question

Have you answered consumer's real estate questions on ActiveRain?  Trulia?  Zillow?

I am Re-Blogging Niki's post.  I remember when the Questions & Answers section (link in Niki's post)  was introduced.  I believe I have probably answered less than one half dozen questions and two of those I answered this morning AFTER reading Niki's post a couple of times.

Only 11 questions have been asked in Ohio since January 1, 2011, on ActiveRain.  I thought the Questions & Answers section was gone... or buried.  The ActiveRain Questions & Answers  show up well in Google for queries like "Real Estate Questions" or I searched for "Ohio Real Estate Questions" not signed into Google and ActiveRain Real Estate Questions was in the top slot, page one...

How well does ActiveRain show up for Real Esate Questions n Google for your state?

To answer one of Niki's questions, I might be more active on questions if there was a place for a link.  I like that on Trulia.  I use my ActiveRain content (on my Outside blogs now) for the link.  Questions about schools.  I have a link for that.  Questions about safety or crime?  I have a link for that.

The criticism I remember from the beginning is member's answering questions across state lines.   That should be OK on some.  Not so great on other questions.

Legal questions?  And that seems to be what so many questions are about.  I don't have a link for that...

Tni's answer

Recognize Tni? Tni LeBlanc.  Tni is one of 101 answers to the Trulia Voices Question at the top of my post.  Tni is an attorney.  Tni is in California. Tni's answered the question:

" you should seek the opinion of an attorney."

There is an Ohio attorney answering questions on the ActiveRain Questions & Answers section now:  Daryle C. Tibbs Esq

ActiveRain QuestionsHi Everyone,

Active Bob and I were chatting today about ActiveRain (as we do most days).

It turns out that ActiveRain actually has a Questions & Answers section, which is hard to find.  But the pages rank very highly in Google for Real Estate Questions

Consumers are asking questions, but there are very few real estate professionals answering the questions (since it is hard to find the section).

Has anyone answered consumer questions on ActiveRain?  Why or why not?  Did you know this area existed?  Would you be more active if we improved our questions area?  Anyone generate a lead by answering questions on ActiveRain, Trulia or Zillow or another site?

Feel free to go to Niki's official post and comment...I have twice.  Or comment here.

Embarassing when the intro is longer than the original post?

Thanks for the stop, pause and think about it. Other platforms we trot in and out of have features like and unlike Active Rain. The better online blogging experience is when you can combine the best of all, and then some. Answering questions on the above venues and linkedin are good for SEO, the public that is looking for a guy or a gal wearing the "R" that knows what the heck is going on. Seems on the ball.

"Answering questions on the above venues and linkedin are good for SEO"  Whose SEO?  The real estate agents?  Does anything come through to the individual?

Do benefits of answering the questions on ActiveRain come through to the individual member?  It does not on Trulia does it?  Or did not?  Trying to remember when Eric Blackwell (?) wrote about that.

I guess I had forgotten about the questions section. I do answer questions on Trulia and Zillow that pertain to my little part of the real estate world!

I remembered it.  I looked for it... within the last 6 months.   I was surprised recently to see how many questions I had answered on Trulia.... only in Ohio.    I realized I had two Trulia  accounts and needed to merge them.  If they had used the newer one the one that matched my company email address.... the one with the listing feed... I would have lost all my answers.  Messed up.

Good morning Maureen. Never knew there was a question/answer section. Oops. Most of the questions for Michigan were quite old and never answered. Thatnks for the re-post.

Thanks Randy.  I think ActiveRain would have to do a system like Trulia to email questions to members who want to know when they are there for an area.  My voices emails from Trulia are hit and miss.  I will get an email a couple of times a month but then I see questions that I never received an email on... or maybe I know where they end up... (it's not my spam filter either.)

The true scavengers on ActiveRain, Trulia and Zillow who answer questions across state lines, with links saying "Pick me!, Pick me!"  or "I am not in your state but I can refer you to someone in your state, let me, let me" are always going to be there first.

Donna I think it was introduced in late 2006 or early 2007 and never really took off but I think it was on page one as a link until the most recent change to the dashboard.   Trulia that is how agents primarily interact with consumers.  Trulia has blogging.... but I think more focus is on Trulia Voices.  I think that is easier for more RE agents to embrace than blogging.  It's 2.0...  It is coming from the public.

I don't think AR ever really focused on it once it was up.

Maureen,

I used to check it regularly but there was rarely anything from NJ.  So I forgot about it...

Maureen, This is the comment I left on Nikesh's post. It is almost as long as your intro.

I have not used this but in reading the questions from Maryland..there are some from 2009. Many questions should not be answered and they are obvious. I would like to see a better quality answer from us...not just, "you can call me to be your agent," kind of answer.Bet we could take some of the inquiries, make them into a post and then refer them to that link. Maybe a section called ' Questions from the public".It could make for some interesting conversation. So instead of complaining about "bad questions'' let figure out a way to encourage the questions from the public...and have an open forum for all of us.

What do you think, Nikesh?''  Margaret

Perhaps add a Trulia question and an answer and you'd be as long.

I think the big thing is to allow us to link to our content that answers their question.  I don't think it can boil down to a few edited FAQs because buyers and sellers want their situation answered.  Of course they need to ask those involved in their situation the questions, and responses should always tell them to rely on those they've hired for the job, to seek professionals in areas of law, tax, finance, engineering, inspections, etc. when they need them and rely on those professionals.

Of course if AR lets us share a link to a post that answers that question the majority will throw in a link to their website or their blog rather than a post answering the question the consumer has posed.

AR has Guidelines for the ANSWERS

  •     Do not submit advertising or spam.
  •     If you can't provide a quality answer to the question leave it to someone else.
  •     Respect the privacy of the person posting the question.
  •     Know the laws and regulations for the area you are answering the question.

Unenforcable... like much online. You gotta hope member would try to answer the question rather than spam. I was just looking at a Trulia Voice Question where I used a link to a site with crime stats.  An old post.  Another answer someone with my company used the link to her site and told her to search for homes and that there is crime stats there.  There is.  If the consumer knows how to navigate the site.

Bloggers have something most real estate agents don't.

Maureen ~  I had forgot about the Q&A on Active Rain and would not know where to find it.  It was back when I first signed up and then my main focus was trying to blog.  I do use Trulia but very little there are only a hand full of questions for my area.  Every once in a while I will get a new answer on a question I had wrote an answer and its kind of funny because it was written a year or longer.  I don't use Zillow for much of anything but I have had clients come from both sites but don't check in as much.  I have had more clients come from here so I stay here mostly.

June I still don't know where the Q&A is. Gotta be here somewhere. What is  amazing is how well it shows up in Google.

Lender who is on the dashboard asking if AR is too much work (Members Only) said something about Trulia having "Juice" but I don't know what he means by that. Trulia has traffic.  People will see your answers there but I don't think Google (or any search engine) sees the individual members  there answering questions or on Trulia blogs.   I am not sure AR Q&A does either.  It's a link to the profile.
