Rainy Day in Berkeley...

October Rain - Active, October Rain in Rarified Berkeley California.

Our housing market here reflects the turmoil in the world, I think.  I have friends who are therapists, Psychologists, health care workers - who say they have never seen people in such distress.  The world is scary now.  Our market is schizophrenic.  Houses sit on the market for months, and then one comes on and has 6-10 offers.  Is it that much better?  We are in a protracted war that is placing all of us in a precarious position.  Our government seems to have abandoned diplomacy.  Our earth is in mortal danger.  Our economy is global.  Sound like Science Fiction to you?

Agents are thawing after the frozen stances many of them took when the market showed its shadow side.  Many have gotten "real jobs" - and that is fitting in most cases.  The Department of Justice has brought out its own Website explaining how unreasonable the "standard" commission charged by brokers is.  I emailed them and said that "standard" commission does not exist - commissions are negotiable - by law.  I suggested they consult an attorney regarding their language.  We may be at the nexus of the new world in Organized Real Estate - the Associations and MLS's across the country that challenge the limited service offerings online to "content" listings. Perhaps, in five years, the consumer will have access to all actively for sale properties listed with licensed brokers as well as all data on sold properties that were listed and sold with a licensed brokers.   Wow, now I am thinking that maybe MLS's will be gone, as we know them - maybe Google will have achieved the alternative data base for listings.  Will that break anyone's heart?  I like to wonder what it will all look like in 5 or 10 years.  Do you?
