Bacteria and mold...when You Should Clean

By

I was watching yet another documentary today; I have gotten sucked into them now that I have on demand television (I am stepping into the new age! Congratulate me!) This one was about how often specific items in your home should be cleaned. Now, I am a cleaning fanatic! I do a once daily 45 minute overhaul of my home. I touch up the kitchen, refresh the bathrooms, do dishes and laundry and sweep the floors. Now, when you have 2 kids, 2 dogs, 3 cats and 5 hermit crabs, this is a necessity. My home always LOOKS clean…but after watching this on television, I now know that the dirt that can be the most harmful, is in the places I would least expect. So how often are these thing supposed to be cleaned? Read on!

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Your refrigerator:  the inside of your icebox should have a deep cleaning every week to prevent accidental food poisoning, hidden smells and mold. Pull everything out and clean all the bins, shelves and walls. Remove any food that has been sitting since the last week and reorganize to make sure that nothing is hidden, causing you to purchase something you already have.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Your stove, even if you don’t use your stove very often, it is vital to its system to keep it clean and free of burned and caked on foods. Too much of this, or improper cleaning can lead to fire. Carefully clean your oven every two weeks, a little less if you don’t use it very often.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Garbage cans and disposals should be cleaned every week with antibacterial soaps. The bacteria hidden on your trashcan can lead to extreme illnesses and you honestly wouldn’t believe how many times you actually are exposed to it! Disposals can become extremely smelly if you don’t clean them weekly with disposal care cleaner. Look for this in your local grocery. To maintain a decent smell, run a couple lemon wedges through it once a day!

So there you have it! The few things that I put off for every couple months…my health actually depends on my cleaning it every week! Keeping these places clean is vital to your health as well as to the condition of the item!
