Linda Pufford, a Home Stager from Marin & Sonoma California wrote this great informational blog illustrating the subtle effect proper Staging can have in a home.  I have been, and still am a proponent of Home Staging before you market your home.  It helps, among other things,  create, very subtly, focus on the features that we want buyers to focus...

"Home Staging Tips ~ How To Create A Good Focal Point"

As a Home Stager I am often asked how to create a good focal point in a room.  Whether you are Staging to Sell or Staging to Live choosing one focal point brings a room together and helps the eye center on that one focal point instead of many.

A couple of the easiest ones are a fireplace or a large picture window... but what if a room doesn't really have an easy one or one at all...  what do you do?  You create one...  we did a Staging to Live project in a home where they had a large window in the room but never really opened the blinds so there was really nothing to focus on...  so we rearranged the room and gave it one.  We used only the furniture and accessories the Homeowners already owned.  They wanted a different look without having to go out and spend a lot of money on furniture.

Here's is the before picture of the largest wall in the room!

Here is a picture of how we created a focal point in the room!

Here is where the Piano was before it became the focal point.

The Piano was placed along the wall when you first walked in and all you saw was the side of it when the doors were closed.

Here is the new look from the same angle.  We moved a smaller desk from the Family Room to place where the Piano was and it fit very well there.

Another shot of the Room before the transformation.

Here is the after shot!

Here is another before shot of the Living Room and up above the Dining Room.  We also Staged to Live the Dining Room as well.

Here is the after shot of the same two rooms.

A full view of the whole Room before.

A view of the whole Room after.

This is just one example of how you can transform a room and give it a whole new look and a whole new focal point.
