A Heated Festival in Collinsville, Illinois

I love summers in Southwestern Illinois, not for the searing temperature and high humidity that can wilt those who aren't used to it, but for the various activities and festivals in many townships and villages. It's the time for festivals, outdoor picnics, sailing, fine art shows, and parades for families, residents, and visitors.

Locally Made

One of the festivals is the 2011 Collinsville Illinois International Horseradish Festival that will conclude on Sunday, June 5, from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM at Woodland Park. There are tons of activities scheduled for the full day: contests, food and drink, relay race, the Little Miss Horseradish Festival Pageant, and of course horseradish, in fresh and processed form, (sample of product on the left.)

So come on out and take home some heat... the kind that goes through your nose and hits the back of your head!

Hi, Stan. I posted my draft by mistake earlier and IE 9 doesn't play nice with AR. LOL Thanks for your early comment.

Yolanda, I have been to Collinsville and for the Horseradish Festival.

My husband is a retired CEO for Tulkoff's.. a horseradish company here in Maryland. Thought this would fit your blog.

Yolanda - I thought I had heard of every kind of festival, but Horseradish?   Sounds like this would be a fun one to attend.

Hi, Margaret! Is that not quite a coincidence? Love the street sign! lol Thank you!

Hello, Barbara! My thoughts exactly when we first moved here. It's quite a big deal over here and rightfully so. Collinsville, Illinois produces 60% of the world's horseradish annually, and Southern Illinois grows up to 85% of the world's horseradish! Nice trivia! So next time you're having some, think of me. :))

Yolanda: Well I learned something new. We don't use much horseradis in these parts. I think Ceil has a jar that has been in the refrigerator since we married almost 50 years ago. I think she needs to throw it out and buy a new jar to help keep the economy going.

I love horseradish.  I think I am the only one in my family that likes it though :)  Sounds like a fun festival, wish I was closer :)
