Lake Charles, Louisiana Patio Retreats

We all love spending as much time as possible outdoors in the warmer summer months, so why not treat the outside of your Lake Charles home as an extension of your living area? Decorating your backyard does not have to be an overwhelming task, you can spruce things up without breaking your bank account!

Southwest Louisiana offers alot of opportunity for entertaining and outside events.  As a Lake Charles Century 21 Mike D. Bono & Co.'s Realtor in and out of many homes around Lake Charles, I have seen many homes with outdoor kitchens, screened patio retreats, great decks, and patios.

Patios are extensions of the home that are both functional and appealing to the eye.  Create a Lake Charles  patio retreat,  reflective of your personality so you can have maximum enjoyment of your personal space.

When desiging your patio, there are a variety of designs and many different materials you can choose from depending on the size of your patio that you want to enjoy.  Some things you might need to consider before designing yourLaker Charles Patio Retreat are

  • the existing view your patio has
  • the weather and where the winter sun hits
  • You can even create a relaxing resort feel using umbrellas in a color you'd like.  Umbrellas are also functional and can serve as a temporary cover to your  patio area.  patio furniture
  • You can also choose from simple to extravagant patio furniture for entertaining.  Outdoor furniture has come a long way and it is easy to create a comfortable gathering place where you can  enjoy summer breezes.  Remember a patio is an extension of your living space so make it comfortable! patio furniture

Plants are the most rewarding approach to improving the overall look of a landscape. Add colorful plants and medium sized pots that will be eye catching.

Dress up your patio floor by selecting from stone, brick or pavers.  Stained and stamped concrete is a practical and simple method. Stone paths are a great way to enhance your backyard landscape design.  Placing a straight walkway can offer a more directional route while winding and curing paths can create a more natural organic feel.

You can create a design that often looks just like stone or bricks. stamped concrete Creative Concrete by Ron has done some great concrete designs for patios, driveways and porches I have seen.

Decide on a focal point for your patio.  The focal point will draw the eye to it and be the highlight of your patio.  Focal points can be statues, fountains or flower beds!  This is a photo of a patio found in Canal Place Subdivision in Lake Charles.  This Lake Charles homeowner extended the patio with stone pavers and added a fountain as a focal point. If you are unable to purchase everything at once to create your backyard space or patio, start small and add on a little at a time.

Marilyn, like your area, Arizona's patio areas are such focal points of the home.  Great suggestions.

Marilyn,  Aren't outdoor spaces wonderful?  We enjoy our outdoor "rooms" as much as any other room.  Your pointers are terrific.  Gives me some additional information to work with this season.  Thanks for sharing.  Love the photos!

Marilyn,

Ah that is why my wife and I are having our patio put in this summer.  Last year we put the addition on the back of the home over where the old patio was.  So this year we are having the new much larger patio put in.  We already have all the furniture for our outdoor living space.  I even hung an antique cast iron chandelier from the large tree giving us shade.  It is on a pulley so that it can be raised and lowered to light the candles.

Our patio is the top place we all spend time during the summer.  We're out there for dinner most days of the week and spend more time just sitting, reading, watching the wildlife, and talking.
