I have a good friend in New Port Richey, so maybe one day I will see wild manatees.  Love the photos, Toni.

Toni - When I was in Sarasota, in February of last year, I was able to visit the Manatees at Mote Aquarium.  I had always thought that they would be about the size of a seal, and was astounded to see how very large they actually are. . .And oh so docile!

My wife's grandfather lives in Florida and I have had the privilege of swimming with manatees several times. They are amazing creatures!

Cheryl - let me know when you're coming. We can meet for lunch.

Myrl - you're right they are large!

Christine- we have a few areas where we can see them. They love to hang out near the Anclote Power Station because the water is extra warm there. Maybe you have one in your area.

Steve - that sounds like a lot of fun. I've never done that.

LOL, Joni. Why the heck aren't you.

Roy - thank you; always appreciated.

Sheila - thank you, I'm glad I have a place to show my photography efforts. My family says I  take more pictures than the whole town!

Toni- had a friend that went swimming in his canal in the Keys with one.  He was pretty near it.  Guess what popped up along side our friend a few minutes later!!!!

They seem to enjoy interacting with people, Kathy. At least, I hope you meant the manatee and not an alligator :)

Hi Toni~ I have family in Miramar and we get down that way every few years.  Problem is we have family in Texas and New Jersey too.  It's a challenge to visit EVERYONE!  This year we are heading to Texas to visit our newest Grandson!  Don't worry, we'll get to Florida soon.  It's hard to stay away, it's SO beautiful!

Hi Toni,

I don't think I have ever seen a Manatee before... but I unforturnitly have never been to Florida where I read that they concentrate in the Winter months.  I was also surprised to read that they live up to 60 years or more...  that seems like a long time.  They look adorable and they say they are very gentle.  Thanks for sharing your photos of them... and especially the one of the baby!

Donna - see you someday!

Chris - glad to be of help!

Linda-they do live a long time as long as a boat doesn't run over them. They are very gentle creatures.

Toni, I've never seen a Manatee in the wild!  Lucky you had your camera!   They do appear to be very gentle creatures as you mentioned.  Do they make sounds like dolphin?

Thanks.

Toni,

I'll bet that was a special moment for you to see that mama and her baby. How on earth did you manage to pull yourself away? You always have such wonderful things to show us on your blog. It's no wonder Florida continuously attracts people and animals too!

Toni, I've never seen a manatee and wouldn't have recognized it.  Watching them in action must have been a pleasure.  How old was this baby?  Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Gloria - I don't think they make Dolphin-like sounds.

Patricia - They swam out of view. They are wonderful to watch though.

Leah - I'm not sure about the age; I need to learn more about them. Good question.
