Is There Any Form of Marketing You Won't Do Because.... Well.. Umm... You're a Little Yella?

Here are various forms of marketing that we use in our business and the excuses I hear from people on why they don't do them:

Door Knocking: "I just don't have time.." "It hasn't proven to be that effective anyways." "I don't really feel like getting yelled and cussed at today." "I'm Yella!"

Cold Calling: "Nobody ever answers anyway." "Most people are on the Do not call list so whats the point!" "They will just hang up on me." and "I'm Yella!"

Just Talking to Random People: "They are going to think I am weird." "They don't really look like they are in the "talking mood", "I just don't feel like it right now", and "I'm Yella!"

Blogging: "I'm not a good writer." "I don't know what to write about." "I just don't have the time for this." and..."I'm Yella!"

Video Blogging: "I'm already not photogenic already, you put me in motion, on camera.. no thank you!" "The only good camera I have is the one on my phone." "I don't know what to talk about on camera!" and "I'm just plain Yella!"

Those are just a few methods of marketing. Of course we can literally come up with every excuse in the book to not do this form of marketing or that form of marketing, but is it really a legitimate reason for why you're not doing it? Most reasons are really just excuses and we don't do the these things because it's out of our comfort zone, and we are just yella!

One of the biggest things I have been fighting has been video blogging.. I finally got up the nerve to try it and I posted my first video blog on Activerain this week.  Then I got brave enough to do another video blog..... I posted it...... Got a little a yella..... and deleted it.....All excuses aside... I was just yella! I am still nervous and scared to death of video blogging, one of the biggest things outside my comfort zone that I am trying to face, having a few panic attacks in the process, but mark my words you will see another video blog attempt on activerain by me this week sometimes! I am not someone that gives up and I will not let this thing defeat me, I will be posting another video blog on here in the next few days! NO EXCUSES!

What forms of marketing have you been avoiding, all excuses aside, just because your a yellow belly? What are you going to do to face that form of marketing head on? If I can come out of my comfort zone and video blog, you can take that leap out of your comfort zone to!!! So no excuses!!! JUST DO IT!!!

I don’t do door knocking because it’s just flat-out dangerous here. Too many weirdos protecting their properties with guns, dogs, etc.

I might be more orangish.  I've tried most of these, but hey, I'm always looking for things that work.  So, who knows, I might get them all before long!  Thanks for posting, Stacey!!

We don't do door knocking or cold calling simply because these are methods of marketing of which we don't like being the recipients.

Stacey - There isn't too many things I don't do on here but I still have a problem with doing video posts. I gotta get into it darn it. I have the tools and I have been on stage it seem all my life but when it comes to a camera in front of me well, I just freeze up.. Gotta get over that.

No one person can do it all. You have to think about what works for you. Door knocking?? Ihave a dog whose knicnname is "80 lbs of death" - He takes care of anyone who knocks. point being that I don't like it when people do that to me - so I don't do it to them.

I don't do door knocking or cold calling. I get enough business without these two.

I refuse to door knock as I hate for people to knock on my door. It makes my dogs bark and it is usually at night. I have many co-workers who have had great sucess and I wish them well. But I just cannot do it. I am up for most marketing ideas especially the ones that work.

I like this post. I think we've all felt like this at one time or another. Video is a tough one, but I think I'm almost ready to try it. It turns out people like other people that seem regular. Apparently, you don't have to be a movie star.

Stacey - I used to be unwilling to door knock but have find I am willing to do so if I have enough value to bring.  Congrats and keep up the video blogging.

Actually Stacey, I won't do door-knocking because it is a horrible way to market yoursself. It has nothing to do with being timid. In fact, timid people don't belong in this business. Door-knocking is pushy and obnoxious.

Stacey, I like this post.  I used to door knock religiously. I was always dressed up, wearing my name tag everything.  I would have the biggest smile on my face, walking up to the doors of the homes in each neighborhood.  Most of the time the first question I would be asked is, Where are you from?  To which I always reply, I am from Jamaica.  Now the fascination always begin right there...especially those who have visited Jamaica before.  I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have been invited into folks home, even when they were not interested in selling.  On one occasion I was out door knocking for over a 5 hour period; For that period, I had only knocked on 6 homes...I just could not continue.  It was not the most effective use of my time.  That's the reason I do not door knock like I used to.

There's a difference between dropping ineffective and inefficient marketing methods and simply investing time and resources on those that are productive. It's amusing that we try and promote things like door knocking and mail campaigns that we ourselves don't respond to. And best be sure to check that phone number on the Do Not Call Registry before you dial...

One thing your posts points out well is the shift in Real Estate prospecting.  Door knocking is most commonly perecived as an unwelcomed intrusion.  The Do Not Call List, has curtailed cold calling. Increases in postage and printed materials yield a small return on investment. But Blogging, Vlogging, and websites reach millions of people in a less intrusive manner. If they need your service they WILL find you.

Video vlogging is like regular blogging. .the first few posts was when you learned the ins and outs. .. don't delete those posts, learn and go to the next one. .

Stacey--nice post and interesting question.  After years of marketing/selling in different industries I prefer to look at it all as an experiment as to what works and what doesn't.  And when "yella" rears it's ugly head i remember that that is just thinking and one can replace the fear of rejection/embarrassment with the thought of success!

Interesting that you post this blog now Stacey, I spoke to a Realtor today who said that even though they see a Realtor in their office getting listings and new buyers, they can never go and knock on doors looking for business.
