Diane has a great post here.  There are these months and those months.  But, this month is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month.

What a wonderful opportunity for you.  You can make an animal's life ever so much better.

Consider her post below.  And, please go to her blog to thank her for such a great post!

Did you know that June is "Adopt a Shelter Cat Month" I didn't until recently and while shelter animal adoption is something I feel very strongly about throughout the year it's kind of cool that there's a  month devoted to highlighting the shelter cats that are just waiting for a home of their own.

cat adoption events charlotte ncAll of our cats were adopted from Charlotte's CMPD Animal Care and Control Shelter.  Brady is in the picture for this post and he was around 5 or 6 years old when we got him.  He was super skittish when we first brought him home.  Now....he's a total lap cat (at times he doesn't realize how big he is, or how small my lap is!) and loves to spend time wherever I happen to be, he's a big cat but a total mush :)

There are SO many homeless animals just waiting for a home of their own - if you're considering adopting a pet (it's a responsibility so make sure you're prepared!) check out your local animal shelter.

They're more than just a new family pet, they're survivors and they really are just waiting for the chance to share love, joy and companionship with a loving new owner.

At Charlotte's Animal Care and Control Department there will be a special All Cat Adoption Event that will also celebrate the opening of the shelter's new catteries (rooms specially built to provide cats with more space and enrichment).  The event will be June 18th from 11am-3pm at the shelter - CMPD Animal Shelter Map Location

And of course there's the monthly Pet Adoption Event at South Park Mall (first Saturday of every month) which will be June 4th from 10am-4pm. Cats, Kittens...and Dogs and Puppies too will all be available for adoption.

You can also take a look at shelter animals available for adoption online anytime at Charlotte's Animal Care and Control Adoptable Pets

Great reblog.  I spoke with a friend who runs a local cat shelter and she had me in tears talking about the many cats that are "destroyed" when they aren't adopted.  Breaks my heart.  I'd love to have a farm where I could take them all.

Patricia, thanks for at least giving it some thought because as you can see from Chris Ann's post.  This is a big problem.  Spaying and neutering helps but those cats that live months and months in some of the more humane shelters really need a home as do those who only get three weeks and then are "destroyed".  Oh, Chris Ann, my heart breaks at that, too.
