ActiveRain Video Tutorial- How To Add An Image To Your ActiveRain Blog

This is the most asked question ever on ActiveRain. I get more email requests with this question than any other. When I first started blogging on ActiveRain I had no idea how to add an image either so don't feel bad! In fact the first posts I wrote had no images because I did not know how to add them! Also back in 2007 - before we had AR University, before the ActiveRain Guide was out- it was pretty much- learn on your own as you go or ask someone!

So I posted a post with the question, how do you add an image to your post. I got some helpful replies and I also got some negative responses about why I was posting a question like that on my blog.

Since most people are visual learners I created a video tutorial here on who to properly add an image to your ActiveRain blog posts.

Katerina - you saw my cry for help...?  This is exactly what many of us need right now - thank you.

Incidentally, the negative responses you received to your earlier blog takes me back to the teacher's admonition: "kids, there are no stupid questions"! Congratulations! You have absolutely proven the teacher right. Great job.

Katerina - great tutorial for us newbies. I have learned the hard way that Firefox is much better than IE.

I just wish our MLS would become Firefox compliant.

I already knew all of this, but for some reason I always forget to enter a title for the image! Thanks for doing this great reminder, I'm bookmarking it for future reference.

Side note: why on Earth would you get negative comments for simply asking a question so you could learn? I know it was back in the Wild West days of AR, but geez!

When uploading images, I suggest that you bear this in mind, from the Active Rain terms of service:

You agree that you are solely responsible for all Content that you make available on the Site. You also represent and warrant to ActiveRain that you own all rights and have unlimited control of your Content, which makes it possible and legal for you to share and transmit your Content. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, you agree that you will not post Content to the Site that is copyrighted by someone other than you, without the express, written permission of the copyright holder. You agree that your Content, once posted on the Site, is non-confidential.

In the US, the creator of the image owns the copyright from the instant the image is created, unless he or she actively transfers the copyright, which I believe requires a written agreement. This does not require registration of the copyright, and a copyright holder can pursue and obtain monetary compensation from misuse of his or her copyrighted material without having registered the copyright. However, if the copyright holder has registered the copyright, he or she may pursue a lawsuit for misuse. I would be willing to bet the usage of a very large number of images on the Active Rain site violates copyright.

David- That is the subject for another post. Lenn Harley has over 50 posts about copyright issues. I know about the copyright law in the U.S and I abide by them. All clipart that I use I pay for from a site that allows commercial use of their images. Thank you for sharing although it is outside of the scope of this video tutorial. The idea for my tutorials is to make them very short and to the point. Make them easy to understand and something that someone can do within just a few minutes. If you noticed in my video I was choosing images from my hard drive on my computer which I assume to be photos that I have taken or clip art that I own or had permission to download to my hard drive. Nora- You are very welcome! I have a lot of ActiveRain tutorials on my blog. It took me a long time to figure it out when I joined AR 6 years ago. There were no tutorials or university or webinars to help on AR!
