Real or Personal

I think most Realtors have a good understanding of the difference between real and personal property. On the other hand I don’t think sellers do. I remember a call I received from the agent representing the buyer. She said the seller ha removed all the beautiful rose bushes from the backyard and the buyer is threatening to walk away from the sale. The buyer told the agent that the only reason she bought the house was because she liked the roses.

When I contacted the seller she told me that her grandmother gave her the roses and she was not about to let the buyer have them. I barley had time to make it to the nursery before they closed. I was planting rose bushes late into the night.

Now instead of giving the seller a real estate lesson on what is real and personal property I ask them for a list of things that they plan to remove from the property. If I see any items that might be an issue I ask the seller to remove and replace the item before it becomes an issue.
