Grrrrr. Nothing makes us madder than manufacturers hyping their wares by trying to perpetuate tired and untrue sexist stereotypes. Over Mother's Day the following Proctor & Gamble coupon and advertisement appeared in our newspaper.
Leslie immediately got on the internet to see what the most effective way to make a difference might be.
We are all in the business of helping people house themselves and their families. No one knows better than REALTORS and lenders how the housekeeping and breadwinning "roles" of homeowners have changed in the last 30 years.
Will you help Leslie out? She needs a minimum of 50 people signing a petition to send a message to Proctor & Gamble encouraging them to update their marketing to better reflect current households. It's very simple and will take less than a minute of your time. Here's a copy of the email Leslie sent to friends and associates seeking their help. The link follows her message. Thank you so much for helping encourage Proctor & Gamble with some insistent consciousness raising.
Hi, Proctor & Gamble recently put on a Mr. Clean coupon in the mother's day supplement a picture of a woman and child with the caption "Now Get Back to the Job That Really Matters", and all their ads portray women as the only ones who clean, serve, wait on men and boys, etc. Underlining message- You women need to get pregnant and back in the kitchen where you belong.
So Leslie created a petition to Robert Mc Donald, CEO, which says:
"Motherhood is an important job, but no more so than any other job that women do. Quit implying that women need to get "Back To The Job That Really Matters" as you did on your Mr. Clean coupon, and that unlike fatherhood, motherhood is all about cooking, cleaning and serving men and boys."
