Best program for calling over the internet

I said I would write a post about using Skype, but hadn't yet done it.  After researching and trying out almost everything out there, the best "soft phone" in the business is by Skype.  I like Vonage, but they charge you $24.99 for the unlimited plan, plus you then have to pay extra for the soft phone use.  With Skype, everything is a softphone, although you can also purchase a "skype phone" that connects up to any open wireless system.

Also, Skype is pay as you go, so you can pay for just as much as you need.  And for now, all outgoing calls in the U.S. is free right now!

So when I am at home or on the road near my pc, I make all outgoing calls with my skype account.  It's probably saving us $125-$175/month on mobile phone usage.  and the quality is great.

I've heard of this on the Clark Howard radio show.  I wonder if there are service interruptions or issues with coverage.

More info and comparisons of VOIP and Skype on Clark Howard.

Thanks for the tip-

I'm going to finally switch over to VOIP, and I was just discussing alternatives with my Broker yesterday.

I'll be sure to check this out.

I would love to flip over to one of these providers, but my problem is the my internet is over satellite.  There is a time delay due to signal transmissions.  It would be like talking on the radio, a three second lag time.  I will keep this in mind when we actually get a different service.  Thanks.
