Let The Sunshine In
Sellers, take heed; this post is for you. It was written by my colleague Jeff Dowler in Carlsbad, CA, but the same holds true for Boca Raton, Delray Beach or Boynton Beach.
I cannot tell you how many homes I show that are dark! First impressions are important and if the house is closed up and dark, it makes for a bad first impression. Natural light from windows and doors always makes the home look better.
So please, as Jeff says, "Let the Sunshine In."
Let The Sunshine In
Is this walk back in time? To the musical HAIR (Video clip - a pretty powerful message from that era)?
A reminder of The Fifth Dimension, who made the song famous?
I may be dating myself a bit, but the point is that if you are a seller you NEED to let the sunshine in.
I can't tell you how many homes I have shown where homeowners are living in the dark.
Of course it saves electricity, and not having the sun streaming in, especially in hot summer months, saves on energy and helps keep the home cooler. And strong sunlight does cause damage or discolor fabrics and wood.
And maybe some people just don't care all that much for the sun.
But if you want to create a good first impression and avoid that "wow is it dark in here!" exclamation from buyers, you gotta let the sunshine in.
Keep in mind...this is not about you, but about making a good impression on potential buyers, who may like lots of light and sunshine. Trust me, I have had a good number of buyers who specifically want a light-filled home. I'm sure many other agents have as well.
And if you think you are hiding sins by having the lights off and the shades drawn, guess again.
While you may not be able to do much about the direction your home faces, or the big trees surrounding your home that cause shade, you CAN maximize the light coming in by keeping curtains and blinds open. It can make a difference in how your home shows, and buyers will appreciate how light and bright you home is.
Just that reminder again...
It's not about you and your home,
It's about them and selling your house.
