Copper Pipe Thievery-NEED SOLUTION

By
Real Estate Agent with Stark Family Companies

With demand for metals going up and the pricing for scraps being so attractive, I have long heard the dilemma of investors, agents and homeowners dealing with thefts of copper plumbing, ac units, furnaces and hot water tanks. Not only is this an altogether inconvenience on everyones part including the thief, there is no major attempt by local law to come up with ANY conclusion on what can be done. There is no way to watch every house that is subject to the breakin, but there should be a eagle eye watch on local scrap yards and recycling centers. If you dont have a contractor or builders license, YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE THESE ITEMS BACK PERIOD.

Recently this dilemma has become more than a rumor and evening news problem solver investigation. It has directly affected my company, the way I create offers and became a talk amongst investors at Starbucks and my investor association. Many of my homes purchased now are instant targets for these ignorant crooks. Couple more houses of mine and they may just find a midnight confrontation with mr.ccw or the meanest stray pit bull roaming the streets of Detroit I can locate.

Anyone who has advice on this situation and a way to help prevent it is more than appreciated for thier info and insight.

We had same situation here in Seattle . We all are using "AquaPex " now. Fittings are little bit more money ,but the installation is very fast and plumbers love it. It also eliminates the need for watch dogs etc. There is still the electrical wiring though. The product I'm referring to is also called "wirsbo"or Nuponor(I think ) but I'm sure the plumbing supply house will know.
