A "Country" Find in Rural Marana - The Sky Rider Cafe
Yesterday my daughter and I got up early to get a bike ride in before the temps rose too high. Our destination was the nearby Marana Airport, 5.8 miles away. They have a little restaurant there called the Sky Rider Cafe.
(Every bike trip is better with a place to go TO!)
The airport is one of those little municipal ones with the Cesnas and locally owned 2 and 3 seaters taking off. We did have some jets practice out of there once, and the Blimp always "bunks" there during the Golf Classic. It's a fun place to sit and eat and watch the planes touch and go.
The waitresses know most everyone by name and you have a bit of a feeling of going back in time.
History, Airplane photos, and Murals cover the walls, and the whole place is dotted with "balloon art".
We "shared" two menu items and ended up with coffee, pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit, cinnamon roll, and sliced tomatoes all for $10.
Lunch specials are priced similarly - it's a nice place to stop in for a bite when you're out exploring the country in rural Marana: The Ironwood Forest and Reserve, cutting through Sandario Road from Kitt Peak, winding around the scenic trails of Saguaro Mountain Park. viewing the Petroglyphs at Picture Rocks, and so forth.
You can find the Marana Municipal airport at the corner of Avra Valley Road and Sandario Road, not ten minutes west off 1-10.
Rub elbows with the pilots and enjoy a bite "cafe" style at the Sky Rider Cafe. No matter how you get there, for breakfast and lunch, it'll be open: "Ate days a week"
