When Are Property Taxes Due in Saint Clair County, Illinois?

Real property taxes in Saint Clair County, Illinois are paid in arrears... meaning the 2011 tax collection is paying the 2010 tax bills. Counties in Illinois do not all collect taxes in the same way or on the same date. Each county has its own timetable and manner of collection. In the case of Saint Clair County, taxes are paid in two installments. The tax bill notice and two installments are tentatively scheduled on these dates: the property tax bills will be mailed by August 12, 2011, the first installment is due on September 14, 2011, and the second installment is due on November 10, 2011. These dates are subject to change. Avoid paying fines and penalties by paying on time.

What happens if you miss the deadlines? These are steps that the County takes to collect the taxes owed: According to the County website, the last day to pay to avoid being published (as a potential tax sale) is on (Friday) January 12, 2012. The Certified Notice of tax sale will go out on the same date. The list of tax sale properties will be published the following week (January 9 - 13, 2012). The last day to pay taxes and penalties in order to avoid the Tax Sale is on February 10, and failing to collect, the Tax Sale of all unpaid taxes is on February 13, 2012.

Seems like they'd give you more time between the first and second installments. We get five months between our installments. The bad thing is that the first installment is due on December 10 (Christmas) and the second installment is due on April 10 (taxes). Personally I think they need to pick new due dates.

Eric, who says the government has to make sense? lol Another county has four different installments which make for better budgeting. I know you are busy, so I thank you for taking the time to comment.

SO WILL THE DATES FOR THE 2011 REAL ESTATE TAX YEAR BE THE SAME NEXT YEAR OR IS THE COUNTY GONNA KEEP DOING FLIP FLOP CRAP ON DUE DATES?

HOW DOES GO ABOUT APPEALING THE TAXES ON THEIR PROPERTY / HOME.  JUST SO I KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT BESIDES A RUN AROUND, AND TYPICAL GOVERNMENT BULLSHIT.  EVERYONES HOME IS NOT WORTH TODAY WHAT IT WAS WORTH LAST YEAR, SO HOW DOES ONE APPEAL.  PLEASE KEEP IT SIMPLE AND THE HONEST TRUTH HERE.

Hi Yolanda, any idea what the St Clair County property tax payment schedule will be in 2013? I self-escrow and am trying to figure out best short-term certificate to buy in the meantime. At today's exorbitant rates, don't want that much money sitting idle very long. Judy says "Hi!", and say hi to Scotty for me!

Hi, Larry ~ Happy New Year! Historically the first installment is due in July, and the second installment is due in September. Last year it was July 26th, and September 5th respectively. I imagine it will be in the same time frame, but I will post it here or let you know through Scott. Hi, Judy! Thanks for dropping by!
