Happy (hot) Trails This Weekend...

Call me CRAZY...weather here is in the mid 90's. I am a fair weather hiker. I can hike with the best of hikers. I've hiked as much as 24 miles in one day. My last backpacking adventure was 88 miles in 6 days.

I love love love to hike, especially when temps are in the mid 70's up to the mid 80's.  The weather is clear and crisp, the wildflowers are in bloom and everything is right and peaceful with the world.

I'm pretty sure that's not what's in store for me over the next three days.  It will be DRY and HOT.  I hope that if I happen to see a rattlesnake it will be kind enough to warn me in advance just like the last three rattlesnakes that I happened to see while I was hiking. Copperheads are a bit more sneaky...they give you NO warning.  That may be why I've never seen a copperhead while hiking.

I'm hiking a section of the Appalachian Trail.  My goal (one of these days) is to have completed all 2100+ miles of that wonderful trail.

I have two new gadgets that I'm taking along on this adventure. The first is my handy dandy Spot which I named Guardian Angel.  Guardian Angel will track me progress on the section of trail I'm hiking. My family and friends will be able to see where I'm hiking at any given time. I can also send out an emergency signal if needed.  The second is my Steripen that is used for purifying my water source. I've always used a pump on previous hikes but excited about this new gadget as well. It will cut down on weight that I'm carrying and it's not as time consuming as using a pump.  My backpack will weigh 25+ pounds so the less I can carry the better it is for me.

You can call me CRAZY if you'd like, let me tell you, you won't be the first!

Cindy...the link that I sent to you from Spot is all you need. If you don't see it, check your spam. Once you open that email there's a link for you to go to. Once you do that it just shows you where I am.  Wish me luck and a few prayers would be nice too!

Kim,

I am impressed and envious.  I'm sick in bed today.. terrible sinus infection.  I had rather be hiking with you!  Have fun!
