TempleWhether you are looking to buy a home in a safe community, with great neighbors, and a rich history, or simply planning a day trip with the family or with out-of-town visitors, the North Shore is sure to not disappoint.

The are many North Shore inspirations to visit that represent the best of North Shore living; including everything from Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie-style houses down to the roads we drive on.

Here are just a few suggestions of where to visit while exploring the North Shore this summer:

  • The Glencoe Train Station  Train stations of the North Shore tell great stories about their towns. This one in particular has beautiful architecture with its bold turret and striking massing up against the rough stonework.

  • Mahoney Farm Preserve, Kenilworth   The ‘farm preserve' is actually a small, serene park, bisected by Sheridan, that consists of two oval-shaped meadows lined by winding paths and surrounded by woods. Jens Jenson was the great landscape architect who constructed the meadows with his trademark ‘council rings,' or gathering places, made of flat, layered limestone.

  • Sheridan Road  This drive is gracious and timeless in its own tree-lined way. Cruising down Sheridan Road, minus the McMansions that have been built in recent years, takes us back to a time of luxury and an air of carefree bliss.

  • Brick Streets, Wilmette  Wilmette boasts14 miles, more than 20 percent of its total streets, with wonderful roadways covered in antiquated brick. They are truly a lovely site to behold compared to their modern asphalt counterparts.

  • The Baha'i Temple and Gillson Park, Wilmette  These two masterpieces sit side by side in Wilmette. One is a great, white filigreed dome while the other is a 60-acre park. It's a beautiful place to admire the temple while enjoying the beautiful sites in the park, whether it be the beach, walking by the grassy dunes, or the ever-changing lake. Gillson Park was created from landfill excavated to form the North Shore Channel using natural resources.

  • Market Square, Lake Forest  A day out just wouldn't be complete without some shopping. The ritual on the North Shore is the best kind of shopping. You can explore the charming architecture of this Arts and Crafts-style shopping center by Howard Van Doren Shaw while finding treasures. From the iconic but architecturally varied clock towers to the arcaded buildings that frame the graceful public space, Market Square is a commercial center worthy of Lake Forest.
