Called Shots - Even Better Than a Featured Post, Maybe

By
Real Estate Agent with Retired

I enjoy getting my posts featured. I feel fortunate in that, at the time of this writing, I have had 17 featured posts. Not a large amount to brag about, but, nothing to be ashamed of (after all, there are many people ahead of me in points ranking that have had no featured posts, and many behind (and in front) that have had a lot more featured posts). Sometimes I do question why a post got featured, because for the most part, I haven't thought of most of them as featurable.

But lately, I am finding that I get a better feeling inside when I see my "Called Shot" count go up. When it was first started, I wasn't really sure why it mattered, after all, under the old system there was no such indicator. But, the more I hit the suggest button, the more I like it when I see that post featured, whether I get the credit or not.

Perhaps it is just some kind of feeling of accomplisment by proxy, some feeling of vicarious accomplishment. But perhaps it is just the feeling that others agree with me. Or maybe, it is really just feeling good at someone else's success. I do hope that it is the third reason more than the other two. But it is anonymous, and, if someone else's post is featured because I hit the suggest button, it is my little secret. Its that peeing in a pair of dark pants effect, a warm feeling but nobody else knows.

So I am going to continue to look for posts to feature, hopefully from those who's blog posts I haven't read yet, or those who have not had a lot of features. And maybe I'll find out, more than likely, that it is a combination of all three reasons that make me feel good.

So go ahead, call some shots yourself. You might feel good about it, but more importantly, you might get someone the recognition that they deserve.

Good evening Mike. Getting featured, amassing points and correctly hitting the suggest button. Allpart of a much bigger picture. I have had a few featured and never knew why. The ones I guaranteed would be weren't and those that were surprised me.

I like your idea of going for called shots rather than featured posts, which often can be a fluke.  I admire your tomatoes, too, expecially since I just planted mine about 10 days ago.  We have had a cold, wet spring!

Michele - thanks for that observation, hopefully you will suggest others blogs

Ron - doesn't matter if you think someone's post is worthy of being featured, hit the button

Randy - but go ahead and hit the feature button for otheres

Gary - I was great at handicapping quarter horses, not as great with thoroughbreds and terrible with the harness horses.

Marge - and those tomatoes were soooooooo sweet.

Mike, I have never had a featured post.  I have been in the Daily Drop, but by now my attitude is such that I actually take pride in the fact that I have been here for four years, have had some posts that have had more than 30 comments and never been featured.  I think it is funny, actually.

I have some envy for your 17 featured posts.....but, you definitely deserve them.  I still suggest and have 46 called shots, too.

Hi, Mike! I love the tomatoes, too. I've never tried growing anything like that. I've seen those hanging tomato pots, but I don't know if they really grow healthy like on TV. :)

I've called several shots, but I'd say my choices are only 25% successful. Sometimes it's already featured even with no comments--probably from the AR feature panel. It's a validation of sorts that my hunch is 25% correct. lol

Nick - thanks, good for you for calling all those shots

Suzanne - a year or so ago there was an agent that wrote a post about having written over 600 posts and not been featured. No sure if he has been yet. There is at least one person in the top 50 that has never had a featured post.

Yolanda - tomatoes are one of the easiest things to grow, just need sunlight and water. If you drink tea or coffee, you can use the grounds or used tea leaves as fertilizer/mulch. Just get a large flower pot and a tomato plant. You can plant cucumber underneath and trail it down the pot.

Mike - me, too!  For some reason, I take pride in my work as a shot caller.  :)  And when I see one of my suggested ones that is featured, it is like a little victory.  I read and suggest in the morning from my droid phone, while drinking coffee on the patio - I can suggest, but commenting is difficult on that phone, so most of my suggests are for posts that I have not even commented on!  The writer has no clue that I suggested, perfectly anonymous.  When I hit 100 called shots, it was like I hit a milestone.  :)

Well I'm always learning things from you Mike.  Today it wasn't in this post, which I like by the way), but in your comment about growing tomatoes.  I've long known to put my coffee grounds in the garden, but tea... nope, didn't know that.  Seems like a perfectly good reason to make a gallon of sweet tea to me. :)  There are a couple of people who write weekend wrap up posts and choose some very worthy posts that weren't featured.  Pat in DC, Donne in CA  ... at last check I have somewhere in the 50s on called shots, but I too sometimes scratch my head.

Virginia - at least you can read it enought to suggest. Tough even to do that on an iphone.

Charlie - and to recognize someone that deserves it

Tammy - and you can leave the tea in the bags, if you want, but it looks better when you take it out of the bags.

Mike -- I had been so inactiv for so many months and I am now just getting back in the groove. I didn't know about the called shot unti just lately. I suggested a post that got feature. And you're right -- what a nice feeling! To think that other people value what I thought would be a good read.

I didn't even know one gets points for that until it popped up! Points or no points --- it's still great!
