Black Elk Energy will host the 3 rd. annual " Empowering the Community " Charity Event. The event will be held at Willow Fork Country Club  which is located at 21055 Westheimer Parkway, Katy TX 77450. The two day event will feature a barbecue, gumbo and chili cook off on Sunday  June 12, 2011 and a 18 hole 4 person team golf scramble held on Monday June 13, 2011.

This amazing event is a cooperative effort between Louisiana Association of Community Action Partnerships (LACAP) and Black Elk Energy. Last year this 2 day charity event raised approximately $116,000  and this year the hope is to raise over $200,000. The net proceeds will support LACAP in programs such subsidizing home energy bills for qualifying household income levels, establishment of vocational training for low income households and home weatherization projects. The LACAP works to assist economically disadvantaged residents in the State of Louisiana.

The cook-off will start for the teams on Saturday morning at 6AM - 9AM. Live music from Zydeco Dots will start around 2 PM and the cook-off judging will start at 3 PM.  Individual tickets for the cook-off cost $20. Additional entertainment will be provided by Kevin Black and the Kevin Black band ( 6 PM) and the Guzzlers ( 4:15 PM). Cook-off Winners will be announced at 7:15 PM and the event will end around 8 PM.

On Monday the 4 person scramble golf tournament will have registration and celebrity greet and meet starting at 8 AM. Four person Team Mulligan packages cost $250 per team. There are still several sponsorships available. by going to their web site  Celebrities will include Mark Calcavecchia from the PGA tour, Mina Harigae from the LPGA and Blair O'Neal.

It is amazing to me how many things go on in a small and wonderful community like Katy! The event sounds wonderful! I just love gumbo and would love to try it but I will be at work what a great way to contribute.
