Philippe Park was acquired by the state in 1948 out of what was the plantation owned by Count Odet Philippe; who introduced cigar making and citrus culture to Florida. It was originally 162 acres.
There are still some huge oak trees within the 122 acre park. That's my 6ft. husband walking towards the tree. The park is one of our favorite haunts. Speaking of haunts; the Count is buried somewhere in the park (his former home) but there's no use looking for him: the burial site is unknown.
