A while ago, Rich Cederberg wrote a great post about DoFollow WordPress Blogs that I re-blogged.
We've had just a few Active Rain members add their own DoFollow WordPress blogs to the list. If you have one, please visit that original post, add your own blog in your comment, and check out the other member's blogs, too!
In the last 18+ months, I've spent an inordinate amount of time looking for DoFollow blogs in search of those all-important, but frequently-elusive backlinks.
Backlinks are essential for increasing your website's ranking in the SERPs (Search Engine Page Results).
Some of the ways you can get backlinks:
- Leaving comments on DoFollow blogs
- Having someone else link back to your site from the content on their site
- Signing up on sites that offer DoFollow backlinks as part of your membership profile
- Participating on forums that permit backlinks in signatures, and sometimes in your posted content
One thing to keep in mind is that not all backlinks are treated equally. Some are worth a LOT more than others. Backlinks from high PageRank (PR) sites are worth a ton more than backlinks in signature areas in forums, for example.
This article with the PR Chart explains it fairly well. A lot of the sites that have this chart comes with all sorts of spammy/scammy commentary, so just focus on the meaning of the chart so you understand why backlinks are so important.
Now that we know we need backlinks, where can we get them?
From the list above, we can get them ourselves by commenting on other DoFollow blogs.
I will warn you, like everything else worth doing, it takes consistent action of a long period of time to get results. I set aside time every week to troll for DoFollow blogs and leave comments. I keep a little chart of tick marks and try to do 10 to 40 per week.
Some will convert (get approved), some won't.
You can either check back later to see if the comment was approved (waste of time), or just check your Google Webmaster Tools Links Area (GWT) once a week or once a month to track your progress (better).
A few weeks ago, I ran across this list of DoFollow Blogs and have been regularly leaving comments. I've seen my backlinks go up accordingly, and with a lot less work than before. That site has a LOT of crappy sites that aren't actually DoFollow, but it also has a lot that are.
Your best bet is to set aside an uninterrupted 15 to 30 minutes and just plow through them. Comment on the good ones, ignore the bad ones. Keep a little chart of your progress for a month or so and check against your GWT links to see if your reported backlinks are growing.
Although there are a LOT of get-links-quick schemes out there, beware. Google is quite savvy at figuring out legit-vs-non-legit activity and backlinks en masse from link schemes can backfire.
If you have good, non-spammy/scammy advice for getting backlinks, please share!
