A Simple Coffee Purchase Brings a Smile . . . Pay it Forward

We had some excessively hot days this past week, and there was never enough cool liquids to make me feel comfortable. While running around, I stopped at a local quick stop to get something cold to drink. I got into line and waited somewhat impatiently for the woman in front of me while she scrambled through her purse for her money.

Then the charitable side kicked in and I stepped up to the counter, placed my drink on the counter and gave the clerk a $20.00 bill and told her to take the woman's coffee out as well.

Somewhat surprised, the clerk did as I asked. The woman turned to me as thought she were going to see someone she knew, which was not the case. I just handed her my card and asked that she do something nice to someone else down the road.

Earlier in the year our board of Realtors had passed out cards at a breakfast encouraging us to perform some type of random act and pass along a card as well. Those cards were long gone from me, but the spirit was still there.

Hi Ed,

That is really cool.  I love the cards that your board gave out as well.  Earlier this year I was in line at Starbucks (drive through) and the clerk said that the person in from of me bought our purchase and would I mind keeping the "pay it forward" alive by purchasing the people behind me, order.  Apparently it had been running for several hours.  I thought it was quite a cool concept.

Ed.. This is a nice gesture, and one I'm sure this woman appreciated.  I've been there where I'm scrounging around for change... when I forgot my bills home.

That would be cool to have a Pay It Forward message on the back of your card - and hand your card out with that side up.....

Good for you, Ed!!!

Cindy, the Board was trying to get everyone more involved in their communities. They passed out a bunch of cards with lots of encouragement as well. Thanks for stopping.

Judy, it definitely put me in a better frame of mind for the rest of the afternoon.

Hannah, it's the little things that happen to us along the way that make us feel better.

Joan, we never know where our next contact will come from. Why not try a little harder.

Hi Deb, thanks for stopping. You were probably around Bridgeport with the signs along I-95 at exit 27A.

Valerie, we are all in that position at some time or other where we can't come uo with our money just quick enough.

Margie, in our business every encounter can be a potential client, It's a matter of initiating the action.

Hi Dagny, we met next door to this quick stop. It's easier to just have separate cards made up and put your name on the back of the Pay-it-forward card.
